SM FWD class should be interesting... Also S2K and a few others are moved to BS, quite a few changes overall with car classing... Should be interesting to see the bickering over the winter.

edit: Doesn't look like anything is final, but just suggested at this point if I'm reading correctly.

edit2: Looks like all AS moves to new BS. Old BS gets merged with old CS to make new CS. SS moved a few of the cars out and moved them in to the new AS. The S2K is in the same class, it's just called BS instead of AS now.

It's not so much bumped as it is renamed. They took a few SS cars out and put them in their own class (new AS) then took the old BS and threw them in with the CS, then rename AS to BS and everyone is happy.

Man I haven't been into Solo for about 3 years now... I think it's funny that they are still battling over subframe connectors in STS. Still looks like the ASR components are ut becuase they serve a secondary purpose of mounting the sway bar.

As much as I love Solo I just shake my head sometimes at the level of detail and nerding out these folks get into. Can we just get along and have

ASR swaybar reinforcement has been ok since mid 2008 IIRC.

SMF is a good new introduction, going to be a good place to be in a swapped EG!

SMF... finally! It will be interesting to see if anyone builds up an EF to compete with the many competitive EGs.

Really though... why would you? CRX is also legal so if you dont care about the way it looks, etc. the CRX is a no brainer at 100lbs lighter than the EF.

wow, johnny come lately. SMF was run since the beginning of the year. BUT, the class will fail. you need to support it nationally, otherwise it will die.

The Civic would be 100 lbs lighter than the CRX, assuming the same displacement engine was used.

Only 6 cars in SMF at Nationals. Hopefully that will change next season. I'd like to see this class flourish rather than flounder...

I would to, but yes I definitely think that was mainly since it was announced so late, I think next year the turn out will likely be better, but hah, I don't know.

Doesnt matter... there is no way the HEAVIER 4 seater civic will make the lighter minimum weight lol

An ITR swapped CRX has a realistic min weight of 1875lbs

An ITR swapped EG has a minimum of 1775lbs and would be lucky to break 1900...

My car is currently ~2100lbs with no power steering, I will be absolutely thrilled to be sub 2000lbs with power steering added.

The CRX is smaller and has a shorter wheelbase.

So my point stands - if you didnt care what you were driving, why wouldnt you be in a CRX? Personally, I'm in an EG because I cant stand CRXs

If you are trying to make min weight, why do you still have metal fenders, hood, and doors, and glass windows?

The min weight is lighter on the Civic. Just because you can't get there, has nothing at all to do with it. People have put Integras under 2k lbs before...

Besides, you originally said CRX compared to an EF. An EF can make min weight with an ITR swap (though I would argue that an ITR swap is the wrong engine for the class).

Unless you are talking about an '88 CRX HF with no sunroof, the CX EG's are going to be lighter. My '91 CRX Si weighs just shy of 2300lbs without the driver. I do have a rollbar that adds roughly 60lbs. Way easier to make an EG lighter than a CRX IMO. The hatch glass and sunroof are heavy, with the weight in the worst place in a CRX.

Yes you can replace all of those with carbon fiber / fiberglass to reduce weight, but I'm pretty sure you can't touch the stock glass as it is a "Street" class still...

It's all well and fine to just make blanket statements, but class limitations play a huge role in the amount of weight a person can take out - for example, in this class you cant touch your doors, glass, etc. My hood is going to be skinned for lighter weight than a comparable carbon hood. Carbon fenders are not worth the $$$ for the weight saved, under 10lbs for the pair, no thanks.

Hey Tyson, I appreciate your point about the weight of your car, but if you were building a car from scratch for the solo purpose of building a winning SMF car, you WOULD start with an 88 CRX HF which seems to start at a sub 2000 curb weight; ST CRXs are well into the 1800s and SM allows for a lot more weight removal past ST. In my eyes, when evaluating rules you need to evaluate the POTENTIAL of the rule, not the actuality of what people are currently bringing.

Yeah, I dont have a specific source to quote, I just thought I had seen an STS CRX on SCCAforums for sale at 1860lbs.

Is there any doubt that a CRX is lighter than an EF which is lighter than an EG, considering base models for all of them?
