Hawk HPS vs HP-Plus on a street/track driven car, whats your preference?
It's time for new pads + rotors, and in the past, i've used Hawk HPS and I loved them, so I want to stick with Hawks, plus I get a great discount on them =P.
Now, as far as rotors, i've just been using Autozone rotors and they've been fine. For pads, I was wondering should I step it up to Hawk HP-Plus pads? I understand they squeak a bit and have a bit of brake dust, but that's not really an issue since the car isn't daily driven.
For those that have used HPS and HP-Plus, whats your input? Is it worth the upgrade and spend a little more?

ran hp+ 4 seasons (i'm from Quebec so winter means -40 and meters of snow), they're great for street and amateur track.

Hawk Ceramic for the street (quiet, super low dust), HP+ for the track.

hp +, there only noisy if your lightly on the brakes. They do kick up a ton of brake dust though. If you live in the cold like me, your first stop can suck a bit. I am using them on my daily driver now, what is left and there fine, i beat the crap out of them for four track days. Still plenty of meat left.
I must say, my ebc yellow's were a lot more fun on my last track day though.

personally i wouldnt bother putting anything more than stock in the rear. i've had axis ultimates (currant) and cobalt gt-sports in the rear and the less aggressive pad the better. my next rear pad will be autoxone $9 specials

Yeah, we should've clarified that. Cheapo stock stuff for the rear, always. Anything more than that and you start getting weird rear lockup issues.

I daily drive and track my car often. These brakes are really nice. I love the bite on them at late braking. They haven't faded on me yet. I track once a month on stock rotors with HP+ and i am really happy with them. The only thing i could have asked for was running better brake fluid which i should have done in the first place. But i will be running Motul RBF600 now.

hawk blues suck. these days tehre are pads that offer the same if not better performance and wont ruin your rotors and wheels.
if the guy is using hps and for the most part getting away with it, hes not ready for blues, ht10s, ect. probably a group 2 driver on street tires. hp+ front, stock rear, autozone rotors all the way around will work just fine for him.

I'm using HP+ on the street and on the track on both of my heavily-tracked street cars. They work fine on the track, and they work fine on the street, too (they never squeal, and the work fine even when cold).

Even if they "squick" and dust, after you try them, sorry to say, but every car should at least have that kind of "bite", period!
I wouldn't go lower then Hp+
Winter car ride on that.
Same goes for the GF car.
My summer car, is a different story.

not to thread jack but i need pads for mostly daily driving, autocross, and maybe one track day every once and a while. i was going to get the regular HPS pads, but are the ceramics better? (i dont want alot of noisy or dust)

Re: (carrnut21)
i dont wash my track ****/racecar, all my wheels are black and i dont DD it. so i dont care about brake noise or dust. and when i tracked my daily, i still didnt care about dust and noise. any pad that works well is gonna produce dust. axxis ulitmates are way quiet and i guess similar to HP+ in the way they handle heat. the HP+ has more initial bight tho.

Well, you can't get a single pad that does everything well. (If you could, we would all be using the same pads!)
As noted on the Hawk website, their Performance Ceramic pads are designed for low noise and low dust. I would conclude that they are better in that respect than the HPS or HP+. However, I would also assume that the HP+, and probably the HPS, offer better braking performance and, in particular, better ability to stand up to heat on track days.

Re: (nsxtasy)
I had hps's last summer, when i initially put them on they were much better than stock for driving around, they had good bite and they wern't noisy. After a day on the track tho i have to say there were a few times i thought i was going to have to throw out an anchor to help slow down. Initial stops were good, but i there was a performance loss as they got heat in them. Going to try Hp+'s in the front and may keep the hps in the back or go back to stock on everyones advice.

Re: (SleeperGSR)
i ran HP+ in the front for 5 autox's and 1 track day and they were awesome, yes there a little noisey and dust alot but its a trade off so it doesnt bother me. the rear i had axxis ultimates. now i ran the ultimates in the front for 2 season and they werent bad but faded alot, during that time i had cheap oem stuff in the rear and they held up really well.

Re: (spock_rocker)
ive used both pads and i would have to say that hp+ pads are much better than hps.
currently i have carbotech xp-10 in the front and the cheaper durlast pads in the rear w/ dot-r tires. they rears lasted only one track day at laguna, but at least i can take advantage of the lifetime warranty.
