Anyone track thier Em1?
hey i havent posted on here forever but here is my Stock 2000 Civic siR i have had this car since April bought it with 120,000kms(75k miles) since the i replaced the Timing belt/tesnioner/seals/water pump/thermostat, tranny fluid change, and spark plugs+valve adjusment i also added JDM password intake since it had a ghetto setup before and i just recently added the Hids for night driving.
some pics of my engine bay.
anyway i was just wondering if any EM1 owners have any track experience...Since my car is mechanically sound, I am planning on tracking it this summer. Ok So to my knowledge, first I need a DOT approved helmet? And for tires I want to run my stock wheels but I need help choosing some decent track/ summer tires in 15"Also about the brake pads and rotors? Should I upgrade or run stock? And for suspensions run the car stock first and then see what needs to be upgrade? Please don't be afraid to chime in!
Thanks! Forgot just hit 98,000 Miles!

Fellow EM1 owner here. Since its sounds like you don't have much track experience it would probably be best to just keep the car stock for now and learn as much as you can.
Just make sure your car is mechanically sound, make sure to put some fresh brake fluid before you head out and check that everything is working as expected. You'll know once you've gotten comfortable with the car what needs to be upgraded next.
As for summer tires Hankook RS3s are probably the best DOT street tire you can get, also the Dunlop Star Specs are pretty darn good.

well i know that i need to upgrade the Rotors very bad. since there is a little bit of vibration when braking at highspeed. Thinking of some SLotted/drilled rotors and Hawks pads? also for the tires i have heard some good stoires about the Dunlop star. what size would you recommend? and for the brake fluid just some 4 Dot approved?

as for your brake rotors, if they arent too worn you could just have them machines so they are like new again. For light track work in a stock car oem rotors should be fine. Get some decent brake pads and some good tyres and you will have a lot of fun.
After you get a feel for the car you will probably realize it is a boat, the next step would be coilovers and rear sway bar. Track it again and go from there...

No drilled rotors. The cheap parts store ones work just fine.
You should get good fluid (ate type 200/super blue, ect) and good pads (hawk dtc30, ht10), and a good street tire. That is all you need for a while.
Happy motoring!

I took an HPDE at VIR back in 2002 with my EM1. The only thing I would recommend is flush the brake fluid with something better and upgrade the pads (as long as your rotors are ok) with something like Hawk HPS or HP+ pads.
I toasted my pads and fluid the 1st session out. Pedal went to the floor when I tried to slow down. Scary as heck. I didn't know as it was my 1st track day and the internet was still in it's infancy.
Also make sure your gas tank is topped off as you will go through gas quick I ran on my Falken Azenis and had a blast.

Re: Anyone track thier Em1?
Yeah i track my EM1 SSC race car regularly. Bought it from a good friend when she could no longer race due to class rules. I run R Comps and some pretty hardcore brake pads on OEM rotors. Don't need much more than that.
However for a rookie, street tires on stock wheels with good pads and oem rotors will suffice. Just make sure to use a good brake fluid like ATE Superblue, bleed them before you go out to the track.
No more vinyl on the car now!

I tracked my em1 when it was standard, i tracked it during modification and I will be tracking it as an all out race car very shortly.
As a minimum, you should look at the following before going to a track:
1. Change brake fluid to a good brand with high boiling temp. Motul RBF660 is a good option.
2. Make sure you have good brake pads and good disks with loads of meat.
3. I would reccomend a upgraded seat and harness as you will slide out of the standard factory seats on fast sweeping corners.
4. Decent brand of tyre depending on your budget
5. A torque wrench or power-bar for tightening your wheel nuts.
Also consider welding some baffle plates into your sump. This comes highly recomended if your going to track your car regularly.
Heres a pic of me last year...coming up to lap that integra or course :D

Re: Anyone track thier Em1?
RBF 660 is a bit pricey for just getting your feet wet. ATE Superblue and others are far cheaper alternatives for an HPDE. The higher modified cars and racecars use fluids with a minimum of 600 degrees boiling temp, due to their performance potential being far greater.

Re: Anyone track thier Em1?
If you're going with Motul brake fluid, then maybe go with RBF600 instead of RBF660. The RBF660 is rated somewhat higher, but costs quite a bit more. The RBF600 may sufficient and may also be easier to find if you need extra at the track. Make sure that you do a really good flush of the whole system if you're switching over to a new brake fluid (you can empty out the master cylinder reservoir and fill it with the new fluid before starting to flush the lines). The racing fluid like Motul RBF600 absorbs moisture faster than standard (non racing) fluid, so you'll want to bleed the lines periodically afterwards, and do a full flush say once a year. - Jim

Re: Anyone track thier Em1?
I wouldn't order eBay cheapos. You should get something like Brembo OE replacement, or part store brands. That way you can at least ensure that they use quality metals that are going to be temperature consistent. I never really trust anything sold on eBay, especially when it comes to important parts of the car, and those parts going wrong could cost me the car or my life.
