It IS racing, and there are actually people who are there to watch the action while having a few beers on a Saturday night. It is also cheap as hell to enter compared to the road racing club leagues ($30-50 vs $300+).
The right turns are to the drive up teller window at the bank because these leagues pay cash money to win. It is because of this that they don't bullshit around with half assed enforcement of the published rule set given (think club racing-even at the nat'l level). These tracks have been doing business for a long, long time and most of the kinks have been worked out. They may even have insurance for if you get hurt racing OR watching...
Those that manage the club racing leagues could learn a few things from these guys if they wanted to.
Good Luck.

<--- Tried going to a "professional level" demolition derby last week, and it was sold out an hour before the race started. Big money payout to the winner, tons of fans, wtf are we all doing on asphalt?!?

Asphalt roundy round pays just as well, if not better.....check it out.
BTW-How do these dirt guys get ALL that dirt off the car quickly between sessions and before they bring it home? The last dirt race I saw (Ventura), the 4 cyl cars had like 25-50lbs of dirt caked on after the "wet" session.....

I have looked into that a little bit actually, but it seems like it takes more $$$ up front to get on track.

I don't usually go out to pack the track because my tires are small and don't make that much of a footprint out there, but we have a modified too, and when it comes in you just start taking the mud off either with your hands or with scrapers if you're a nancy boy LOL. It gets pretty heavy, if you're smart you wait until its had other cars on it for awhile then go out late. Some tracks enforce it and make you go and others are laid back but it gets done eventually. Riding dirty is half the fun. The inside of my teg is covered in dirt chunks. Pretty sweet.
