20CiviC02Si Returns from the DEAD
Hey guys, long time since I have posted. Been busy working on getting my car ready for competition. A lot has happened since I last posted. Spent some time building up the Si in order to compete in Honda Challenge H2 class. Finally this year I made my dream a reality. Received my competition license in July through NASA, and just had my first race at the NASA Midwest / Great Lakes / Central Region crossover held at Road America.
Was an EPIC race between my bud Jeremy Meyers and I. His car was better prepped for the race given Road America's long straights. I had quite the disadvantage being that my car is still 300lbs overweight given that I'm still running a B16A2 in the car. Minimum weight is 2250lbs with that engine, I came in on the scales at 2543lbs after the 40 minute race.
"Jer" (Jeremy) got held up on the 1st lap in some traffic, that I had navigated my way through and passed him. I held the lead for over half the race, however given his hatch is powered by a B16B and at minimum weight, he was able to make quick work of the field behind me. He began making his move for first on the main straight, I used all the defensive driving techniques I had in my tool box to stay ahead. He would pass me and I would counter, however once we had one lap of good battling he finally powered by me and took 1st. It was short lived though, him an I were pulled in for inspection after the race, he came under weight by 6lbs weighing 2394. You're allowed to be within 5lbs of the minimum, so he missed 1st place by 1 freaking pound. 1st place was then awarded to me. For him and I to pull a 1-2 finish on our first race ever, I think we're on the right track.
Sadly the Sunday morning qualifying, Jer wrecked his car heading into the "Kink" at over 105mph. The car was a total loss, however he made it out safely with only some minor injuries.
So with that all said I am going to post some of the progress the car has seen over the year I have been gone!
Where I last left off!
Installed P1 Spec Aero (Crappy Picture)
Corner balancing the car with new 15x7 Kosei K1 w/ 225/45/15 Toyo RA1
Engine arrived from San Francisco thanks to the help of some good friends!
More parts for said engine
Because weight reduction! Installed some FAL rear windows, broke one of them on install....
Swapping in a new ITR Brake Master Cylinder, big people like me have trouble getting under Honda dashes!
1st time out with the new aero, sideskirts are much too low and not legal for H2...
HPD Required Stickers
Final Product, sponsorship stickers all applied in a hurry! Red Mist Automotive, RC Autoworks (Dyno Tuning), GPS Track Time LLC
More new parts for the new engine! Can you guess what it is?

Re: 20CiviC02Si Returns from the DEAD
The first event of the year I competed in was at West Michigan Honda Meet or WMHM14 @ Gingerman Raceway. Competed in the FF Challenge in Modified FWD, took first place with a lap time of 1:48.8! The following morning track and weather conditions were ideal and clocked a 1:46.9, then I blew up an axle right after clocking my fastest time ever!
Loaded up and ready for the road to Road America on 8/1/14
Finally given my NASA tech sticker!
Awards Ceremony
After winning my first race, I decided to rotate my tires and bleed brakes. This is what I discover, seems during the 40 minute race I had lost my passenger side outer cv boot. Been having issues with used axles all year....

Mixing it up with the Spec 944 guys down into turn 5 at Road America during Sunday's race. No other cars in my class because of Jeremy's crash and technical issues with 2 other competitor's cars.

wow haven't seen you in a while!
I see you've been hiding in the bat cave lol
Awesome work the car has come a really long way. I'm sure a lot of sleepless weekends working on it
What are you planning on doing with the axle issue?

Well about the axle issue, my buddy has a set of DSS axles he wants $150 for. I may end up going that route until I can find an alternative. I only have one race weekend left this season which is next month. After Sept 20th's GPS Track Time event being held at Blackhawk Farms, the car will be getting put up and stripped down.

I don't post much on Honda-tech any more, but had followed this build a while back and had wondered what happened to it. Glad to see you out there. Car looks great.

Re: 20CiviC02Si Returns from the DEAD
Well had a great season, although it was shorter than i wanted it to be. Was one race short of my goal of achieving my race license. Still on a provisional due to an incident that happened during my 2nd race. Came into contact with a Spec Miata attempting a pass at the end of the straight. Not to self be more patient and wait for a better opportunity. As they say, "hindsight is 20/20". Being that I'm still a rookie, I shouldn't have gone for it, can't change the past, only learn from it.
So here is some footage from the races, as well as the incident footage that ultimately left me with a provisional race license.
Race 1 (2nd Place) - I lead all the way up to the final 3 corners before the checker. The heat got to me and began feeling a bit sluggish, then i cracked under pressure and locked them up at the end of the straight. Giving the lead over to Jeremy Hopps.......
2nd Race (Disqualified due to contact.) - Here is the incident i mentioned. Took the risk and thought i could make a clean pass. Just ran out of room soon as Chris began to turn in for the apex. Attempted to slow the car down even more so, but soon as the passenger front hits the wet grass it's over. We contact and he spins.
Race 3 (1st Place) - Was the only person out in my class for this race, just took it easy since i had no competition in order to be 1 race away from achieving my race license.
