2002 CRV and P0341
I’ve got a potential timing chain issue with our 2002 Honda CRV.
The diagnostic code from the dealer shows P0341. They are telling me that they are not 100% sure that replacing the timing chain will fix the problem. They also said that the engine could be burning oil in which replacing the timing chain will not help.
To replace the timing chain, the cost will be over $1,000. To get a used engine, the cost will be over $3,000.
At this point, I don’t think it makes sense to spend a lot of money on the car since it is 8 years old.
Any recommendations?

In a Junkyard near you.

The mileage isn't the issue. It's the lack of maintenance the engine has gotten. Since the timing chain has stretched due to lack of good oil the engine has seen the same abuse. I would replace the engine.

There is a service bulletin from Honda, 02-041 concerning this exact DTC. A low oil level and poor oil change maintenance can also cause this code. Since there is a bulletin for your vehicle I recommend taking it to your local Honda dealer and have them perform the repairs per the bulletin first. I just had an 02 CRV with this code last week and despite the poor maintenance, the update and new VTC solenoid fixed it.
