Re: tri-stage and single stage? (mr. goodwrench)
there are single, 2 stage, and 3 stage.
Single- clear and paint mix together
2 stage - Paint first then Clear
3 stage- Base, Transparent color, clear
more for Kandy color paint jobs
dont get a single stage if you want a nice paint job. Thats a one day or ear scheib paint job
2 and 3 are the best

Single stage is just like it sounds, you spray it on in one stage.
Two Stage is BC/CC, 3 medium coats of base, 2-3 wet coats of clear.
Tri-Stage can be base coat, transparent mid coat, clear coat, or base coat, transparent pearl coat, clear coat. Same rules apply, 3 coats base, usually 3 coats mid, then 2-3 coats clear.
If you're getting it painted metallic white, you'll most likely be using two stage, which is what most paint jobs are now a days.
It's hard to tell how much paint you will need for your car, you should also seal your panels before you lay down your color. 1-2 good coats of sealer, 3 coats of base, and 2-3 coats of clear, you're gonna use a decent amount of paint.
