Hey guys.

I don't know if the same thing applies to a carbon fiber hood so I'm asking. Can I wet sand with 3000 grit and reapply the clear coat?

Can I also use water and vinegar to get rid of water spots?

Hmm you could. I could be wrong but, I think the damage is more than skin deep there. Looks like sun damage to the resin....I think the only option is to paint it.

Anyone else?

I tried using vinger and water on some spots on my hood, and it didn't do nada. What is resin?

imm i think 3000 grit is too light, may as well use paper towel. i belive there is a diy on redoing your cf hood.

heres a short diy:
sand w/ 320
wipe clean w/ wax and grease remover
spray clearcoat
wetsand and buff

and as far as water spots, use a clay bar. if its on the window use a fine steel wool.

where's the DIY for the carbon fiber hood???? i couldn't find any so far. what about the clear coat peeling?

That's what those spots are. The clear coat is flaking/peeling. Sand down the hood with some 400 grit to get rid of the majority of the flakes, follow it up with some 800 and 1200 grit, then spray a couple coats of clear. Then wetsand with 800 grit. Put on a couple more coats of clear. Then wetsand again at 1200 grit. If it's not glossy enough, repeat the couple coats and 1200 grit again. If that's still not glossy enough, add another coat of clear, and wetsand with 1600 - 2000 grit. Then polish.

How do you blend the new clear coated areas in to the rest?

just spray the entire thing, u might as well protect the other parts of the hood from failure in the future....btw sand 600wet the entire thing and be sure to feather out the edges of where its peeling so when you spray the clear it wont lift it
