Default Ok, need serious HELP... Code 6 coolant temp sensor

Ok, searched and found two other people asking about code 6 cel. Both of which have no conclusions to their problems. Here is the deal. I have a 88 DX with a b18a1 swapped in. Idles fine on start up, once it starts getting even a tid bit warmer it starts to idle up. Once it hits 2500rpm it begins idling up and down, until if finally warms up completely then the idel evens out. I have replaced: IACV, coolant temp sensor, twisted the Fast Idle Control Valve spring in, bled any possible bubbles in the coolant. Now, my question is, I have a coolant temp sensor in the side of the block right under my dizzy. Is there supposed to be one on the thermostat housing like there is on my 96 GSR? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is more annoying than a terminal issue. Thanks in advance guys!

have you removed the intake manifold or throttle body for any reason, check for vacuum leaks

Everything on the car was pieced together. I had all new gaskets for everything when I put it together. I have sprayed carb clen on all the gaskets and everything for leaks and nothing. Seeing as how this car is for racing only I have everything but the map sensor and intake manifold sensors capped off. No vacume leaks... I was looking on my 96 GSR at the thermostat housing and it looks like it has a coolant sensor in there also. can anyone verify that a 92-93 b18 is supposed to have the same housing? God I am totally at a loss of ideas. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well I think I may have this issue figured out. The harness I had made from rywire came with two, two wire connectors. I belive both were for coolant temp sensors. On the current thermostat housing I have no bung for any kind of sensor. Only a bung in the block for the coolant temp sensor, which I replaced. Anyway, long story short check this pic.

I have part #8 currently on my car. What I belive I need is part #'s 9, 18, and 19. Someone please chime in If this sounds even remotely incorrect. ANY imput is greatly appreciated!

Number 18 would be a radiator fan switch. It's needed on some years, not all, depending on which of Honda's 4 radiator-fan-control schemes were used that year.

Maybe you don't even need a radiator fan switch? Anyway, that #18 isn't gonna set off code 6.

When they made up the harness, did they know the years of BOTH your car and the donor where the engine came from? Just saying B18A1 isn't enough information.

He called me and asked what both cars were. I told him and he match the harnesses together. God, I dunno what to do. As far as I know I've tried everything...

Well, code 6 is still the water-temperature sensor, so it should be related to that. I think B18A had sensors in the end of the head (under distributor) and in the back of the block (near oilfilter). I never had one of those, so I'm not really sure. Guess we need someone with a wiring drawing or a Helm book.

Can those connectors get swapped between 2 different sensors? Do they even fit?

I guess next thing would be verify the wires back to the ECU. That would be a PITA, but maybe you're getting to where you need to do that.

Maybe your B18A was already messed with, or not the original engine in the donor car? If it wasn't the same year as the donor car, then he made up the wrong harness?

Decided to buy the housing and sensor anywho, the cel light went away but the idle surge is still there, put in a new FICV and fixed the issue. Fixed my own problem I suppose...
