JDM GSR 99 BAR CAL ECU QUESTION
i will be putting in a 99 GSR motor into my 99 cx hatch next week.. and im trying to get kinks worked out.
From what i understand to pass BAR i need a 99 GSR USDM ecu (P72) but, i also understand by using a 99 -01 has a vehicle immobilizer which needs to be removed
i also have to re_pin A16 into A15 for the fuel pump to work
is there any easy way to get this car to get a BAR sticker( remeber all hints must be ref legal to do) >>CANT GO OBDI!!
please help me get my sticker becuase i have read through all sticky and its still a little grey
O and does anyone have a 99 si harness or know a good place to get one?
NEW QUESTION>>can i run a obd1 board in a obd2 case and if so>> by doing this can i fool ref into thinking runing obd2 ecu or will i run into other problems with with sensors or wiring? if so please explain please!

board swapping won't work, it just won't fit in an obd2 case. even if it did, if they plug the car in for an obd2 check, it'll fail.

Re: JDM GSR 99 BAR CAL ECU QUESTION
'99 integra ECUs dont have an immobilizer, the thing is they're OBD2A, Integras didn't switch to OBD2B until 2000. In other words you need to run an OBD2A to OBD2B jumper harness, which if memory serves me correctly will not pass in California. Your best bet is to get a '00 - '01 ECU and send it out to H-T user Katman and have him remove the immobilizer.

Re: JDM GSR 99 BAR CAL ECU QUESTION
....hmm i was assured that it would fit but let say it wont // there is no difference in 99 obd2 gsr motors and the obd1 motor (any sensors that would dont allow me to wire a "99 JDM GSR" obd1> the reason i ask is because when i pick up the motor i was hoping to just get the older motor wire obd2 and get p72 USDM and go get BAR then wire obd1 and run different ecu for tuning

Re: JDM GSR 99 BAR CAL ECU QUESTION
I believe obd 2 has a crank position sensor and obd1 doesn't down behind crank pulley.
The obd1 and obd distributor is slightly different, I don't know if that will affect anything. I doubt it as a obd2->1 conversion harness has no issues.

All responses here are pretty accurate.
Here's a couple rule of thumbs for ya that have already been mentioned:
Here's a couple rule of thumbs for ya that have already been mentioned:
- 99-00 Civics are OBD2b spec
- 96-99 Integra's are all OBD2a spec / 00-01 Integra's are OBD2b spec and immobilizer equipped
- You don't need to repin A15-A16 because you're not using an 00-01 Integra ecu.
- An OBD2b->OBD2a jumper is required (in your case) if you want to use a 99 GSR ecu. A jumper harness adapter won't pass visual test...but it usually depends on the REF, they all differ.
- All US OBD2a/b honda/acura's run the CKF sensor at the oil pump
- There's no need for the CKF trick if you use any OBD2a/b ecu, but you will need to modify the civic 3-wire CKF connector plug by removing it and replacing it with an integra 2-wire CKF plug in order to plug into an OBD2 B-series CKF sensor. (no need for this plug mod if you use a 99-00 Si engine harness)
- Swapping out the OBD2 ecu mainboard for that of an OBD1 board will not work nor will you pass because OBD1 ecu's can't communicate with an OBD2 scanner tool ...so fail on that idea.
- You will need to run all of the smog equipment for the 99 GSR motor as well as run the 99 GSR ecu and have no CEL's either, to pass.

Re: JDM GSR 99 BAR CAL ECU QUESTION
You're still able to get JDM engines ref'd? A few weeks ago I talked to my local ref and he is forced not to give ref stickers to any with JDM engine swaps. But, if you still able to get it then you are very lucky.

Re: JDM GSR 99 BAR CAL ECU QUESTION
Weird. This is the first time I've heard of this. How do they even know it's JDM other than it just says B18c instead of 1/2/3 whatever?

Re: JDM GSR 99 BAR CAL ECU QUESTION
I'm not sure about the OBD2A to B jumper harness but if it's anything like my old obd0-1 harness it should pass. As long as it looks stock they will never know/care.

Re: JDM GSR 99 BAR CAL ECU QUESTION
I here this from some people.. others seem to say there is no problem as long as you swap a few USDM parts onto it.. ie: intake manifold, purge valve mounted to itm, and throtle body has the wireharness plug on top. IMO I think it just depends on which tech you get, but I could be wrong.
