Default B18C into EG hatch just a few questions

Hey all I have been searching and reading on these forums for about 2 months planning a swap for EG project. I found a possible swap that I would like to use for this.

Its a B18C with a p72 head, which makes a USDM motor I believe. Its a full swap with axles, ecu, etc. Will this bolt up to the stock exhaust or do I need to do something different?

I called the shop owner that has the engine and asked him to compression test it for me. The numbers came back as 180,200,200,200. This seems a little low? But maybe I am wrong.

My question is what do you fine gentleman recommend I do to this block while it is out of car? I am on budget but if there is some good preventive maintenance or performance things I could do I would like to know about it. I already plan to do timing belt/water pump.

I appreciate the help in advanced. I am new to the Honda world, so take it easy on me. I have built several Small Block Chevys in the past so I do have some experience with engines.

I was able to do some further research and realized that i will have to do some exhaust modifications for it to fit up, no problem with that. I ordered a yonaka exhaust for it to start out with.

I am thinking about replacing bearings and rings/valve job while i have it out of the car and on the stand.

So should i keep the stock pistons or is there something better I should use? This will be for a DD.

Im picking this motor up this weekend. I will take some pictures

Got the motor yesterday!!

Also ordered a rmf narrow replica from plm to put on here. Getting pretty excited for this swap.

I believe it has obd2 conversion harness on it. It goes to a set of grey plugs that attach to the ecu, I'm assuming I would just go ahead and use that instead my orginal dx harness? Also there is one wire that is not hooked up to the connectors, I'll post a picture of it when I get home, see if you guys can give me some guidance.

Well i think I have a problem..

The harness on the motor i have looks like this..

*SSR 96-00 Civic EK B-Series & H22A Engine Wiring Harness Conversion

But it also has a jumper harness on it also, I am very confused. Because i have been reading that the obd2 harness should connect at the shock tower plugs. But it seems like my harness does not have those connectors on it?? What can I do??

Use your harness and add the additional wires for the ECU you're using:

https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-d...-vtec-2987229/

As far as maintenance:

-full tune up wires, plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter (on the car)
-timing belt/water pump
-front and rear main seals
-valve cover gasket and spark plug seals
-cam seal and camshaft seals
-oil pan gasket
-distributor o ring

Get these from Honda/Acura they'll fit OEM and they're not that expensive.

That link is very very helpful. You did an awesome job with that write up! With that I shouldn't have anymore issues. I found wiring conversion diagrams for the alternator and distributor and injectors.

I will go get all those parts and get the maintenance done.

Thanks

I just did this a few weeks ago. I used a lot of the information from HondaPartHero's link.

If you are using the EG's old wiring harness, make sure that the new engine's fuel injectors fit. If they don't, you could use the fuel injectors from your old engine.

I had to re-route my 4-wire O2 sensor from the front exhaust manifold to the back. I did it by untaping the looms in the harness and re-routing the 4 wires to the branch that goes to the back. It was still a little short, so I got the male and female 4-wire O2 sensor plugs with pigtails from the junkyard and made a 6 inch extension.

While you have the two routes of the engine harness untaped, you could add wiring for the knock sensor and VTEC back to the shock tower plugs. I added wiring from the ECU to the shock tower plugs to match the knock sensor and VTEC solenoid (my engine didn't have a VTEC oil pressure sensor, but I do have one extra shock tower socket).

For now, I am using a CR-V's downpipe to get to the cat. It matches exactly.

I was planning to take the injector pigtails off the current wiring harness, and splice them into my old harness, if I decide to try to sell this current harness I will just use my old injectors.

The p28 I'm assuming will still use to 02 I'm not sure what the tune is currently set to do. But I know the p28 does not read the knock sensor IIRC.

Could you extend the 02 wires by just cutting in and splicing the extra wire that is needed? There isn't very many salvage yards near me.

I need to look and see if I have a vtec oil pressure sensor or not

The header I bought has an adjustable test pipe that comes with it, so I should be able to adjust it to the catback that I ordered also.

Thanks for the reply!

I think that the USDM B18Cs have a VTEC oil pressure sensor.

Yes, you could just extend the four O2 sensor wires after you re-route it, if you need to do so.

Well guys I got her in and running, and it's going great. I have some wiring I need to clean up and hide, but I'm back to daily driving her. Thank you guys so much for the help. The Honda-Tech forum and it's members made this a reality for me, so thanks again!

Here is a picture of the engine in the car.
