What is so expensive about owning an NSX?
I keep reading in post how it is so expensive to own an NSX. What cost so much? I know clutch replacement can get in the $2000-$2500 range. I hear it is similar to the prelude in terms of time it takes. I am also aware that tires wear rather quick due to the camber. Other than that what is it? I mean it is still a honda right? Reliability?...

Not really any shared parts, which means less availability, which means more expensive. It's a rare $80,000 car anyways, so they are gonna make the parts expensive. That's just my opinion...

The NSX is very reliable...I've had mine since 1997...100,000 miles later, still runs like a champ, and cylinder compression is right at spec still. Just chews tires...I get 8000mi on a set of S-03 PP's in the rear, and 12,000mi in the front. Many track events, and it doesn't lose a tick...

It's just that it's a pretty rare car. What, something like 8,000 in the US? Some things can be pretty expensive. For instance, I had a horn button break, $40 to get a new one. It was a HORN BUTTON! So, I bought two.
But it's an extremely reliable car. And if you keep it relatively stock, it's actually quite affordable. If you plan on modding it, then things get relatively expensive again. But the aftermarket is growing and competition is keeping prices in check. Good for everyone! Except maybe Comptech. . .doh.

As long as you don't need to buy anything for it it's not expensive.
All the parts are rediculously expensive. When you are used to paying $300 in parts for a clutch then someone says its $1700 in parts it still makes you say WTF.

the nsx has a great price for what you get......it's just when you think about buying mods....thats where it kills the credit cards

Re: What is so expensive about owning an NSX? (Majuniors_no_vtecfu)
i had a 1 hour test drive in a nsx. she was raced, ragged out and road chipped, slipped clutch, tore up underskirt, worn interior and 80k on the clock.
it was still unforgettable.

Costs of ownership:
Gas - Not expensive (EPA 19/24)
Tires - Expensive compared to a family car or compact car, but similar to other high-performance sports cars
Scheduled maintenance - Labor - Not expensive (similar to most other cars)
Scheduled maintenance - Parts - Expensive (but this is only a small part of scheduled maintenance)
Unscheduled repairs - Likelihood is low (VERY reliable), but can be expensive when they occur
Insurance - Not expensive
Depreciation - Expensive on a new NSX, not expensive on an older one
Interest (or the opportunity cost of money tied up in the car) - Expensive on a new NSX, not expensive on an older one
Bottom Line: A newer NSX is going to be expensive to own. An older NSX is not particularly expensive. However, it's a good idea to have some money in the bank that you can use "just in case".

As well you should. A clutch on a '91-96 should cost around $1200-1300.

I've also heard that once in a while, when you need to get the valves adjusted, it gets really expensive on labor. Something like a couple hundred bucks. Are clutch jobs really that expensive on an NSX or a Prelude?
