That is a real SW388. The color seems as if is not original though.
Just letting you guys know, since no one brought it up
EDIT: This is NOT a real SW388. I repeat. NOT a real SW388. Stupid computer at work fooled me.

Re: (OBSeRiouSo)
The incident with the guy on the freeway as I remember:
Del sol. The wheel was the Rota Mugen RNR-copy, I don't care for the name. Was doing 65-70 on the freeway. He recalls hitting NOTHING, and car pulls to the side suddenly into guardrail. I can't find that damn thread either, but it was in the Del sol forum and the "Hottest del sol" thread. When and how the wheel broke was not clear.
Off topic:
How come the wheel that Don showed had 2 sets of lug holes for 100/114.3
... while the set he is putting up for sale only has 1 set?
I'm confused... too much work = brain not right. I know these ^^^ are for reals... so it's back to the first picture/wheel. The first wheel also seems to be coated with brake dust, and the color under the finger smudge seems close to real. Any inputs?

Re: (FR-MOB: Projekt)
i believe those are nsx spec regamaster evo's, not sw388's.
my regamaster evo's did not have the extra holes, while the sw's i've seen do have the holes.

Re: (jbell)
I think it's more of the design of the wheel than anything. There's also QC/QA to check product before it gets to the consumer. Somewhere along that line something f'd up.
On the other hand, doesn't Mugen's RNR stand for Race N Replace, because there isn't a set that lasts longer than 1 race season?
I know Mackin puts their wheels through an extensive testing process. They're also supplying Formula 1 with wheels now. Under Mackin falls... Advan, Rays/Volks, Gram Lights, even MF-10s IIRC. They also run ARC, Project Mu, Espelir, Takata.. and so on. Going down that list, I couldn't complain about any of their or their subsidiary's products. Call it peace of mind, that when I spend the little extra, I know I'm getting a quality product. I'm not saying that they won't fail, but they have a much lesser chance of doing so under normal use.
So what did that Porsche hit?

^^^Fuuuuk. Damn it. I just double checked this Black "SW388". My computer at work fukin blows. Its too damn dark and Its even set at the highest brightest the monitor can handle.
Im at home right now where I can actually see the detail of this wheel because of my bright monitor, and that my friend up there, the black one, IS NOT an authentic SW388. Reason, because at the end of the spoke of a Rota wheel (SlipStreams), they have what you would call the infamous "rota bend" which is very very noticeable. Compare it to my NSX Spec Rega EVO's where the end of my spoke has a tiny slight bend but flushes out to the lip.
Also in other detail, Desmond/Spoon Sports NEVER released a universal 5-Lug on the SW388. C'mon, what "Spoon Car" actually was competing with a 5x100 lug pattern hahaha.
Desmond Rega EVO's Patterns
15" Desmonds that are 4x100 do have extra holes but it is not set as a universal 4 lug pattern.
16" Desmonds that are 4x100 ONLY have 4 holes.
17" Desmonds that are 5X114 ONLY have 5 holes
and compare these wheels and spoke with eachoter:
Both 15"
Notice how the Rega EVO is more sleeker while the Rota is short and stubbier.
I can also tell what is authentic or not buy the lip of the wheel beacuse a REAL Desmond lip is nice and flat as opposed to a knock off that has a slight stepped lip to it.

Re: (OBSeRiouSo)
Don. I notice that now that you pointed it out, but I was curious to see why the wheel was bent and not cracked. Cast wheels tend to bend a LOT before cracking, while forged would bend a little then crack all over.

Re: (FR-MOB: Projekt)
i've seen forged rims bend, but it has to be one HUGE man make hole! the size of hawaii.
just the percentage of of forged rims are going to fail as likely as the cast.

Re: (FR-MOB: Projekt)
you know what Dang, I really don't know?
When still looking at this picture, the Lip on that Black Knock off looks very Spoonish, but I KNOW its fake because of the universal 5 Lug.
Somethings telling me its not a Rota but a another knock off of the SW388.
But it has to be Rota because it is one the only company that makes a Universal 5 Lug "SW388".

My point is that the Desmonds are forged and Rotas are cast. It seems like the damaged "Rota" was bent in manners common to cast wheels. Mechanical Physics FTW!

Re: (OBSeRiouSo)
rotas are excellent wheels. i have hardcore autocross buddies that rag the **** out of rotas all day for a number of years, never any problems ever.. however i have a friend that has cracked 3 wheels on 2 different sets. mugen and volk wheels... in autocrosses.... he has since put rotas on his car that have lasted beautifully. not saying rotas any better quality then a forged 3 piece but wheels are wheels. its a functional piece and as they may not be 3 piece excellent they are extremely funcional and WAY more smart of an investment when your talking about dollars to use.
if you hate on rotas other then the fact that they are replicas and you dont belive in buying replicas, your an idiot

to you too for criticizing people who'd rather not spend 2g's+ on wheels for there car. I think everyone one on here recognizes the r&d that goes into high end wheels, but that still doesn't mean everyone will have the money to go and buy a set. So does that mean we should all roll on the stock wheels forever until we can afford to buy brand names wheels? If that was the case, then whats the whole point of modifying the car to begin with if everyone's car looks the same?
Your whole argument on the wheels is that its better quality and people shouldnt be putting those wheels on an s2000 and thats fine. Thats your take on it. You got a great car at a young age but you dont need to act like an elitist. To belittle people because they cant afford wheels that YOU think should go on THEIR car is just rediculous.
Out of curiosity, have you ever owned a set of Rotas?

Rota= KEYSTONE LIGHT
Companies that put up $ for R&D to quality wheels = Corona, Pacifico, heinekens etc....
yes you can still get faded off keystone Light and cheaper but you cant compare the 2 beers..
