Was looking at a S2000 today
So I'm looking at getting a S2000. I found a 2003 with 96,000 miles on it for $14,500 with tax and fees. It ran great, clutch felt like it was brand new. No problems with the engine that I can tell. The car had some mods like CAI and a aftermarket exhaust that was really loud. Which I would plan to go back to stock on both.
The only problem is the car has a aftermarket alarm and a turbo timer. The turbo timer box is on the center console by the gas pedal. Should I worry about the turbo timer? I don't want a car that had a turbo on it with premature engine and diff wear. What would be signs I should look for to see if this car did have a turbo at one time? Or should i just skip this one?
thanks

a good way to tell also is the wiring, the injectors in particular. if they were cut before then it was probably setup for it, but some times they use the plug+play clips so thats not definitive. Other smalls things I can think of off the top of my head is the exhaust manifold studs/bolts, see if any appear like they've been moved around. rust usually develops on them so you can tell if it's in a different place.
but yeah a leakdown/compression is much more reliable.

not a good deal IMHO. that which you said can be used to negotiate price lower. no real good reason to have a turbo timer other than the guy either planned or had a turbo. thats what Acura told me when they voided the warranty on my GSR.

Not a good deal at all, and that if it was completely stock. The fact that it had a turbo timer tells me it was either turboed or driven by a ricer. Pass!!!

yup definitely pass on it. Mentioned in another thread that theres an 02 suzuka blue down the road from me for sale 13000 with just over 51k miles on it. There are definitely better deals to be had that are probably in better shape
