Help determining what engine this S2000 has in it.
Alright I'm loooking at buying this 04 S2000, but none of the features show its an 04. The vin# however says it is and it has a 2.2 liter. Is there any way of telling which motor it has by looking at the engine. The reason being if it doesnt have any of the 04 and up features then maybe it at least has the 2.2 engine.

Well the interior is different, the gauge cluster, center tunnel/console.
The rear and front bumpers were completly different, not just the lips.
The exhuast looks different.
The wheels are different.
Lots of differences to see whether it is an AP1 or 2

Well its pretty damn obvious what the OP is trying to get at. What distinguishes an AP1 and a AP2. Is it that hard to grasp?

he stated he is looking at a 04S2K... and wondering if the motor is a 2.2... simply looking at the block engine code will reveal the answer.... but if its a 04 then it is a 2.2 F22C that being it was not removed, or he is from another market where they still used the F20C on the AP2.
he then stated "FEATURES" there are no FEATURES on the S2K just slight redesigning of things.. the front/rear bumper, headlight, led tail lights, cluster layout, radio din cover, center console, shift **** ......
and if was serious about a AP then he would know what the diff was by looking at pictures of them

Dark-S2k is right. Look at the redline. 9K is generation 1 (AP1), 8K is gen 2 (AP2). If for some odd reason you think it's had an engine swap, look at the engine block casting number. Should be under the exhaust manifold where the engine meets the tranny. F20C is first gen, F22C is second gen.

maybe the car has been wrecked, and they installed 00-03 bumper covers front and rear instead of 04 and up?
or
the person sold his 04 wheels and when he decided to sell the car, the 00-03 wheels were cheaper and he installed those?
who knows, but pics and a better description would help......

here's an easy one. how many numbers does your cluster go to? 8 or 9?
or what color is your spark plug cover? if its Gold then its ap2. if its red, then ap1.

Here's the real way to check..
LOOK AT THE VIN
It's located in various places on the car. It will either have AP1 or AP2 in it. There's one on the motor too.

To the Original Poster,
I get what your trying to ask, only becuase I remember your other post. The only way to find out what motor is to look at the engine stamp, look around to see where you find either F20 or F22c. The f20 will make it an ap1 motor 2.0 and the F22c makes it obviously a 2.2l an ap2.
But I do get what your trying to say that you can't just look at the "cluster" or the spark plug cover, radio door, Etc etc. Becuase the previous owner switched a bunch of things in the car.
