HELP! Car starts only with jump.
I searched this issue and noone really sounded like mine...
Here are the parameters.
1. Car had been fine, then all of a sudden one day, it had to try extra hard to turn on.
2. The next time, it cranked even less times.
3. The last, none.
4. Interior lights still worked, even music, which got fuzzy the longer I left it on.
5. Car started okay, and ran normally with jump.
6. AS SOON AS THE CAR WAS OFF, it would NOT start again, not even crank once.
(got it jumped, drove to the gas station 10 minutes away, turned it off to pump, wouldnt turn back on - a jump started her right up)
I cant get to work! And I need to fix it asap - should I just have Honda deal with it, or do any of you have a good idea? I have heard it could be the starter, battery, alternator, distributor, cables connecting all of those things - any ideas?
Thanks so much!

Your battery is low, so low that it won't crank the engine, but still enough juice to run the lights, stereo, whatever. Anything less than 11.7 volts and most cars won't start.

a quick trip to sears and they can diagnose the problem free if you need a new battery or altenator. If the altenator isn't working properly, a new battery wont fix your problem but I haven't seen many if any honda altenators go bad on a s2000 let alone most honda's.

Battery.
Go to kragen, autozone, napa etc. They should have battery terminal thingy ma bobby's that can read how much voltage your putting out.

**** talking not necessary - apologies for asking a tech board for a quick check before I went and spent money.
Of course battery is the first guess, I am not a retard - but I also dont have a killer ego to think I know absolutely everything about cars, even simple things like batteries.
This forum's purpose is for people to ask questions, my fault.

Yeah like everybody else said new battery.
But I wonder why it will not start with a jump now. I hope you made a mistake.
You should be able to start the car then disconnect the battery.
It certainly sounds like your alternator is working fin but your batter is not cranking out enough amps. Do not buy a cheap battery either.

Good to hear.
It is always good to know you have a good battery.
It is almost as good of a feeling as getting new tires.
