why is the engine so bad?
what is so bad about the b21a1, i know it has a low power out put, but y is that, what is so different? i would really like to know why its so bad

pretty much it's an older engine, with older honda technology, the b series is more for lighter cars like the civic and the old ludes, but the engine's not "bad" it's just old

actually the b21 vs the b20, is because the b21 had the first version of frm sleeves. it was not perfected yet, so at higher milege it burns the crap out of oil. also it has a horrible r/s ratio

what is bad about it is that it's one of honda's first engines in which it used fiber-reinforced sleeves in an engine, and unfortunately for them they didnt get it quite right, and so they had a tendency of wearing out prematurely.
the other problem is that it doesn't respond well to mods. not sure why... some say it's head design, some say it's ecu, some say it's *fill in the blank*. in any case there are a few things you can do short of forced induction to raise the power, but an all motor B21A1 is not something to fear...
