timing belt
On my 1988 Lude S My mechanic goes by a book on how long things should take. He said the book showed 6 hrs to change the water pump. Also 4 hrs to change the timing belt. So Im thinking this cant be right. He just dont want me bothering him to hurry the job up. Its all good cause hes still only charging me 150-175$ to do this. But I know there is no way it should take 10 hrs to do this.

that's book rate estimates. A good mechanic should be able to do the whole thing in a couple of hours. I am not 100% on your motor but the H's the water pump is only about 15 mins more work than the belt. Just to change the pump you need to take the TB off to get at it.

Re: timing belt (Sephro)
well in that case is 150-175 a decent price? Also the engine I have Im almost sure of is the b20a3 and it has a carb. So it may be aggravating. The mechanic said its half carb and half FI weird.

they are charging you $150-$175??!??? Does that include the parts? I have never heard of anyone that cheap before. When I called places for mine they wanted about $600+ so I did it myself.

Re: timing belt (nver2)
you have the b20a3 its a dual sidedraft carb. not half this half that. that is a very good price for the tb and water pump. the reason it says the water pump will be 6 hours is because you have to spend "4 hours" to take off the tb to get the water pump off. so 4 hours to remove the tb + 2 hours to do the water pump. with a good mechanic it will take 4 hours for it all.
