Suspension niose - knocking?
Helloooo,
I have this 92 prelude with H&R suspension, lowered 1.2 inches, but there's something wrong...
It handles great, love the car, however whenever i go over any sort of bump the back struts (or so it sounds) knock, like i have some hard plastic panels in my tunk slapping around, cept a lil more metall-y. It's hard to explain, but i don't know much about suspension, i tried tightening the accessible (through my trunk) bolts. But like i said, i'ma newb to suspension...
Anyone have any ideas as to what i could be? or how it could be fixed?
thanks in advance!

Re: Suspension niose - knocking? (polarbear66)
When you say H&R suspension, do you mean just H&R springs? If so, then you need to get outta the ghetto and buy some shocks. If not, then disregard.
It might be a variety of things...ball joints, too much rebound in your shocks, something not tightened enough.
Gimme more info and I can narrow it down.

is it a clunking noise? On my 4th gen.. I had GC/AGX, and the lower fork on each rear shock was slightly bigger than the width of the lower control arm, so it would clunk when I went over bumps, solved by adding a washer in there to fill the gap..
Also, my teins are the same way on my 5th gen.. wtf.

Re: Suspension niose - knocking? (bb2prelude)
i dont more to steal this thread but i have the same type of problem with the same sspension h&r springs saving up for kybs just no money at the moment. When i make a hard right turn or i hit a big bump it feels like something in the driver side suspension is clunking and making the entire car vibrate very badly. Any suggestions again dont mean to steal thread just have a simialr issue looking for problems.

check the bushing on the lower control arm where the shock connects. a friend of mine had this problem, the bushing was worn away badly.

welcome to the club... I got a 4th gen and clunking for years. I got the eibach pro-kit with AGX... I tried everything from changing new strut mounts to sway bar bushings... I just gave up unless someone has any idea how to solve the problem

Dude, check where the bottom of each rear shock bolts to the lower control arm, there's probably some play in that area because the bottom of the shock is slightly bigger than the control arm, unbolt the shock, add a washer, put the bolt back in, and you wont have any more clunking...

i don't think this is the problem that polarbear has but i think it might help fe519. i lowered my car and about 8 months later i started hearin a clunking from the rear. i tried multiple things but the clunk slowly got worse. it turned out that the camber kits i had which replaced the upper control arm mounts, had gotten some play in them. i replaced them and it fixed my clunking

i think mine just needs an axle rebuild cause its only certain time not all the time so that will be first on my list. Then i will start to fix other things as i go

Re: Suspension niose - knocking? (polarbear66)
I sorta have the same problem with my 5th gen. Whenever I would go over a bump something on my rear passenger side would make a knocking noise. My guess is one of the bushings, but hard to find bushing kits for the 5th gen. Also, sorry to go off topic, but with a different car. My 02 ep3 makes a knocking noise but in the front of the car, passenger side. Only makes it when you turn or when the front end lifts up a certain amount. But also to add to the madness, this car was in a accident back in 03, a deer hit it at like 70mph

Also sounds like axle. Damn that's a fast deer.

are you saying I should add a washer on the bolt? Where should the washer sit? Against the head, the tip, or between the arm and the shock?

whoa, that's a lotta posts. You guys are badass. Thanks a lot! I didn't even think to check the lower control arm. I know it's not the axle, it's definatley suspension. I have H&R Springs with Eibach Struts (not sure if you can still get them).
I do know much about engines / transmissions, but when it comes to suspension, i am mechanically lost. SOOO i'mma check out the lower end of my assmbly and see what's happening down there. I'll probably take some pictures to see what you guys say.
I know it's not the axle, the exhaust, and i hope to god it's not the top end of that assembly, i'm scared to take any of that off.
THANKS so much again,
