Starter spins but no start. Need a few tips. Searched
Im just gonna get to the point....
1999 Honda Prelude 5spd non-sh, 170k
I just about maxed 3rd gear, switch into 2nd by mistake, out in neutral as soon as it happened.
Car was running rough for about 30 sec and just died. Popped the hood and noticed my starter was not secured tightly. Secured, nothing happens.
Got car home, removed starter checked operation of starter ok
Removed spark plugs and were soaked in gas. Plugs dried, still no start
There is a rubber plug next to the exhaust manifold showing flywheel. Started car, starter spinning flywheel still no start just whine noise from starter.
Did compression test and came out with a whopping "0" across.
Any tips and/or ideas will be much appreciated
Thank you

x2
If you have zero compression across then you have some big problems. I guess I would start by pulling the head to inspect the damage.

+1 lift the head, your valves are probably bent. you can check if a valve snapped off by trying to remove all the spark plugs. often times a mangled valve will cause damage to the combustion chamber and spark plug usually gets stuck or is very hard to remove. GL with it. hopefully its just the exhaust valves that are bent.

Im hoping for just damaged valves.
I was able to take the spark plugs out, and was able to see pistons which looked like it was caked with sut.
Im going to take the head off prob next weekend to get a better look at damage, but just trying to get some thoughts and ideas going
Thanks again, and keep anymore input coming

snapped timing belt?
The flywheel would still spin right if the starter was working properly even if timing belt was busted?
Yeah, you gotta pull your valve cover off either way and do a visual inspection. Your not going to see much just by pulling spark plugs.

yea but he said it ran for awhile afterward. So without the belt it wouldn't run. But other than that part snapped timing belt sounds like a possibility to me.

Same thing happened to me. SORRY SHIFTER! All the exhaust valves bent. PLUS, my flywheel bolts all came loose when it over-revved. Very bad day!
