Default Preludes "burn oil in VTEC" ?

Is this true or a myth? I can't remember exactly where I heard it, but it was from a Prelude owner who talked like he knew his stuff. Not much, he said but enough that you have to re-add some oil if you're going to be spending time in "VTEC" mode.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

AFAIK, almost all DOHC VTEC's burn a little oil when in VTEC for extended periods of time.

Should use approx 1 litre of oil every 3000 miles on average, that's normal consumption. but the consumtion rate will increase if you spend a lot of time in vtec.

just wondering, is this a Honda thing or do most other high revving engines with variable valve lift have the same problem?

Yeah, It does use oil because VTEC works off of temp., and oil pressure. Mine uses about a half a court every 2 weeks.
