my car took a **** on me this morning
okay so im driving to school this morning after eating at the ever delicous donut shop and my car starts acting up. i was sittin at the stop light and my idle dropped way low so i reved it up just a lil and it backfired. well the light turned green so i hit the gas and it backfires again and im trippin out at this point cause i think i f*cked somethin up. well now my car will not accelerate worth **** and i have no clue whats wrong. its like a constant backfire and bad idle.
its a completely stock, autotragic, h23 with 235,000 miles on it.
what could be the problem? any input? thanks guys..

Any CEL codes? That's also quite a bit of miles you got on the car, perhaps its time to consider a swap instead of spending money on your existing engine. Sounds like it could be a timing issue.

Two main items - 80% chance either the cat is plugged or the timing belt slipped.
You can loosen the bolts on the cat and see what happens. It will be loud, but does the acceleration return? If not, the timing belt probably slipped. I had an old car ('72 440) that acted exactly the same. Some junk came loose in the upper exhaust and plugged the muffler. It would idle great, but started back firing with even the least acceleration... heck, it would barely go 10mph on the way home. I thought I had killed the engine.
