Default manual tensioner woes!!

I have a h22a1 in my 95 civic coupe, and decided to change the timing belt before it went in. I also did the manual tensioner conversion. Flame me if you want but i have been searching for nearly two hours and am going insane trying to figure out which belt to use, the h22 or the h23 one. I put the h22 one on and it is howling, it has been howling for about 50 miles. Anyone have this same issue? what belt should I have used h22 or h23? Thanks in advance

the h23 belt does not match the teeth spacing of h22 cam gears.

and your belt is on too tight then, you have to make sure its not too tight, just snug, and that its not walking off the tensioner, you need to rotate the whole assembly a bunch of times after install to watch the belt.

I have a aftermarket water pump and belt on my accord and it makes the whining sound. But thats because the belt is made wrong, and the water pump is cheap.

Now this makes me wonder about my belt, I can hear a bit of a whine from it and it was pretty tough to get it to slip over the tensioner but the timing is spot on. If I hear any sort of like just humming from it is it too tight?

might just need to be broken in, they tried to tell me that for my accord, and they loosened it, helped a bit, but that belt was in no way like a honda timing belt.

Maybe your problems lay else where, what kind of water pump, what is the age of the pump, are any of your belts rubbing?

Always gotta stick with the H22 belt. The Timing belt will always be tight on the H23 manual tensioner conversion setup. Its your Balancer belt that is Howling/Whurring. It did this to both my F22B1 and my current H22A. After I loosen up the balancer belt, the howling went away. Problem solved.
