Default LEGEND GS caliper AEM big rotors...too heavy?

I am relatively new to honda - tech. I have been sideline watching for awhile and just trying to get a feel for the site....ANYWAY DOWN TO BUSINESS

Vehicle
94 honda prelude SI H23A non-vtec
cold air intake
"el cheapo" headers(megan racing)
5zigen miracle fireball catback
MAT black 5zigen 18inch FNO1R-C wheels

My questions is this....I was comparing the NSX calipers and the legend GS calipers I heard that the GS calipers were very heavy compared to the NSX calipers. However the price was right for a brand new set of GS calipers ($198). To top it off I am using them in conjunction with a VTEC honda prelude AEM brake kit. They are on and work VERY well but is this to heavy a set up?

note: considering buying civic rear big brake kit and redrilling the holes......need brakes shooting for 500whp "daily driver".

Oh yeah on top of that I did not like the way the NSX calipers look.....GS calipers are cleaner.

No I don't think they are too big. Don't people swap to Legend calipers/rotors because it's twin piston? You should be loveing it.

i wouldnt waste your money dude...the prelude already has 4 wheel disc brakes.....you dont need any of this stuff.....just get some good pads in the stock stuff....

if anything, the legend calipers will work fine up front, and just get stock vtec front rotors....

Part of the idea besides the dual piston calipers is to have the GS rotor, not the vtec rotor. The GS has a larger surface (better for cooling).

nah dude, same size rotors. well the vtec rotor is 5mm thinner but its the same diameter as the GS. besides, the vtec rotors are a direct swap for the 4th gen.

The 5zigen 18s are only 17lbs while the stock was 22lbs. I know there are lighter wheels..but I do not want anything less then 17 s on my lude...just would'nt look right to me. The next wheels I am getting will be 17 inch Mugen / Oz rally M12s to match the bumper and rear wing.

My point is I want show and go.

I may not buy the rears but already had the front from my days of trying to go ricey.....now I more towards "stock fast" look.....not so much a sleeper.....I want someone to look and think "well he has some **** done to his car....but not much" then when they hear the engine......

then i suggest investing in something else....like some nice suspension....i usually think pretty highly of a car when i see yellow struts....

That brings me to another question...I was thinking of getting the mugen sports suspension kit from kingmotorsports....anyone has any other suggestions?

^ I personally don't care for Mugen since they didn't think too highly of making a lot of parts for Preludes. Most people are happy with Koni and GC. That's what I am about to try.

The Mugen suspension is one of the better blends of street and track suspension all in one. If you don't want to have to mess with the suspension Mugen is top notch. But the AEM stuff is rubbish. Pick one or the other, don't bother going with both. Sure the larger rotor will give you a little more leverage but the pads are the same.

With just the correct pads and fluid on stock sized rotors and street tires, it will easily stop your 500,000hp car from drag races.. Just one stop isn't going to take that much brake.

Unless you are doing constant 0-100-0 sprints over and over, stock stuff with great pads like Cobalt GT-Sports will do the trick..

They make just as much stuff for the prelude as they do any other hoind that is not a civic or integra....suspension...catback system headers.....body kit(4th gen has been discontinued but still have ).....and wheels.....besides you know enough about the parts your using....you will find out some other things that for other honda vehicles will work for yours.....example...the new mugen rotors for the integra type r(94) will work for the 4th gen prelude...as well as the active brake system for the type r that they have now.


About my set up......like I said.... I had the aem brake system when I was going to go ricey....I thought about selling them but decided against it.....then when I went to fit them...I found that they were not the right rotors I have a si these were for the si VTEC.....bigger rotor so I had to buy new calipers anyway so I figured hey bigger rotor bigger surface area then might as well go for the best rotors.....so it was between THE NSX, LEGEND GS or possibly spoon...well did not have enough for the spoon calipers....nor did I want to pay all that money (300 - 600) for those ugly NSX calipers.....and besides I am not driving an NSX so it would look cheesy having that on that caliper....so I went with the GS calipers....a lot smoother looking...and cheeper 198 brand new

so you arent going incredibly ricey but you're sporting 18s on a 4th....interesting. Good luck with the brakes, them wheels are too effing big tho.

That is about as ricey as is gets to be honest with you....I thought about going 17s but to be hones 15s and 16 just does not look right....the prelude was out to be sports car....sports cars now a days come in 17s look at the new civic SI 17s.

Also I made a mistake the 96 integra type r came in the 4x114.3 bolt pattern.

i personally like zeal. they make it for the lude and i had them on my old teg. i loved them. they handled better than the jic in my friends lude.

lol you said the prelude was a sports car........

well buddy it was actually marketed as a semi sports coupe, not a sports car. That is why the japanese preludes would almost cost almost 45k for a fully loaded one. they are great cars but i wouldn't say that they are true sports cars.

and why are you worried about weight anyways? the car is almost 3000 lbs...
