Hearing a thin slightly ticking hissing sound when clutch is up
Hi all,
I have a 1995 Honda Prelude 2.0i with 217.000 kms and for some time I'm having a non-stop sound/noise, like a thin slightly ticking hissing sound. It appears to originate somewhere on driver side or engine area.
The ticking/hissing is consistent and it becomes a bit faster when the rpm goes up.
When I push down and keep down the clutch pedal, the sound goes away till I let the clutch come up again.
Could it be the valves? Or something not keeping pressure?
First I thought it was my new audio installation (new speakers, amp, ...) and that the audio system was picking up some kind of distortion and amplifying it, but I also have the problem when the radio is turned off. (not sure if that can still cause unwanted results then)
I dont experience power/performance issues, but having that sound is just something that gets very annoying after some time
Anyone with some ideas or suggestions?
regards,
Peter

I've had that in about all my cars. Including the EG I have now.
Dunno. Its never messed up. Maybe the IS bearing. Does the car also "growl" noticeably in 1st gear?

if the noise is related to when you push the clutch in, then you could have a broke'n clutch spring, or weak hyd pressure for the clutch.
