Default H23vtec won't crank

I have and h23vtec in a 97 civic coupe. The car is getting fuel and spark. I checked the spark pulled the plug and arch to the header bolt. It sparked and tried to start. Put spark plug back in and tried to fire no detonation or spark checked distributor cap. Looked fine. Replaced spark plugs then tried to start it, no start. It's just grinding the starter. It doesn't seem to be getting spark. Any help?

Your timing is either off or you have no compression.

What can i do to fix the timing? All that is, is turning the distributer?
If I'm getting no compression what can i do to help with that?

well if you are getting both fuel and spark and nothing is happening its either or.

If its a simple timing is off a new timing belt and tensinor should do the trick.

But if its comp, well thats not good.

Id check comp first if I was you. Go to pepboys or auto zone and get a 40 dollar compression tester.

Test it and when you get the results you will have the awnser.

No comp means pos rebuild, head work. Depends.

Having Compression means timing is off

Where did you get this H23vtec motor in a civic from? Did you build it?

Yeah it was built and the head and block were redone. I had it bored (stupid machine shop) micropolished and balanced. The head was from my h22 and it was cleaned and polished. I hope its not compression. It was burning oil before this, but it wasn't really bad.

I would agree that the timing might be off
