H22a timing belt on edge of cams ..help
H22a 95 civic
I just took the cams off and timing belt so I could put the back cover on.
Now the belt slides 1/8 inch off the cam gear and is getting eaten up by the balance pulley !! Everything is tightened to spec.
and please changing the tensioner from auto to manual is an option but I don't see why this one won't work.. ideas?

Re: H22a timing belt on edge of cams ..help
I've decided just to go ahead and buy a kit from importrp.com
all oem parts included to swap auto mechanism to manual.
$89.00 + shipping + new belt runs me somewhere around $150
Seems cheaper to go through Importrp.com than to go through Honda.

Re: H22a timing belt on edge of cams ..help
this keeps happening. I've seen like 3 threads this last couple weeks about the same thing occuring. My only suggestion is to check all pullies and gears for trueness on the vertical plane one way or another (in comparison to the block of course). If any of them are off even a bit (wibble wobble) the belt is gonna do something other than rotate on a even and normal plane

The most common issues that cause belt walking off the pulleys are worn/miss aligned tensioner/ idler pulleys.

Re: H22a timing belt on edge of cams ..help
it was mentioned in another thread with this problem that this is normal behavior and the balance shaft pulley is there to hold the belt on. I guess on b-series motors it is just a washer that does that job, but on the H22 they used the balance shaft pulley. don't know for sure how true this is, but thought i'd pass it on.
