Re: (prelude1911)
that just happend to me to stupid tick for modified exhaust. i'm fighting the ticket getting my exhaust fixed with a stock gsr exhaust and hopefully they will drop it. whats funny is that the cop told me to fight this ticket. i was like just dont give me one. same sanario go under the speed limit when i got pulled over. cops they'er there when you dont need them and not there when you do need them.

Man all this sux!!! I live like 10 min away from Prelude1911 and seriously, cops are getting more dicks here in the Los Angeles area about modifying your car. Couple a months ago I got pulled over for a modified exhaust. The funny thing, I was going speed limit, and my exhaust wasn't even loud. I think I got pulled over only cause he saw my slanted muffler and maybe cause he didnt have anything else to do!! So right now i have my stock muffler back on because of the fix ticket, BUT, today i just ordered the Vibrant Flt-Black Muffler with an 18" Vibrant resonator. Now these days, in Los Angeles, you gotta try to keep your car looking stealth!!

Re: (macdriver)
as far as the address part its simple if you have the wrong address on the license its wrong. now if you have a voucher proving the change of address on file from dmv you can get away with it.

Re: (prelude1911)
dont know about that, but yeah, you can take the officer to court for violating your rights. It's part of the Fourth amendment of the Bill of Rights of our country.
I found this on Wikipedia:
"Amendment IV (the Fourth Amendment) to the United States Constitution is one of the provisions included in the Bill of Rights. The Amendment guards against unreasonable searches and seizures, and was originally designed as a response to the controversial writs of assistance (a type of general search warrant), which were a significant factor behind the American Revolution."
So, yeah, if what u said is true-the officer didnt ask u if he could look and/or he didnt have a warrant, he violated ur rights, so I'd do some research/contact a lawyer about this. If u go through with it all, theres a big chance u won't have to pay anything (except the lawyer if u choose to work w/ one)
also, let us know what happens. I was blown away to learn that California was that strict on this ****. I always knew that they were super strict on emissions, but i didnt know they took it this far. I'm from MD, and I'm pretty sure it's in a code somewhere that we can't have any modded exhausts/ ways of improving HP on our cars (that may be only nitrous tho) but yeah NOT ONCE have i heard of anything like this happening. With this no turbo law, does that mean they don't sell stock turbo cars (i.e. WRX, RDX turbo, Evo's, etc.)??

If its changed on file then you can and I would fight it. I went through this when I got my speeding ticket. as long as its changed on file you should be able to get out if it. Although the office can tehcnically still issue the ticket for not carying and updated license. I didnt have to end up paying the ticket for the address mine was changed on file at the dmv but I never got a new license...waiting to turn 21. kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Re: (prelude1911)
I couldnt tell ya that I never went to court over my stuff, but honesty usually pays out more. I would get a new one and show them it is correct and have the dmv print out a sheet showing the date it was changed over for when you go to court. They have one dont let them tell you they dont. Be straight forward and honest with the judge. Good luck. I think you should be able to have it dropped.

Ok so i got my fix it ticket for my headers and louder than usual exhaust. I went to the ref with all my stock stuff on and passed everything and brought it to the PD and got them to sign off on it. So my question is what happens if i put all my aftermarket stuff back on and get pulled back over again? Does my car get impounded this time or just another ticket?

Re: (Junesong)
Thankfully I don't live in Cali, but I suspect you guys might do well to have a CARB certified exhaust if possible. If they pull you over and you can prove that your exhaust is certified, then they don't have a legal reason to search the rest of your car and you should be able to refuse if they ask. Also, check into AAA coverage; if you get AAA Plus (less than $100 a year), you get up to $2,000 coverage for legal fees to fight tickets There's a lot of controversy over why cops can pull you over; I don't have a lot of knowledge or experience, but I suspect if someone took it far enough in the courts you would find out that they can't legally just pull you over for having a modified exhaust, especially if you weren't doing anything illegal. As far as the original OP, was it actually a fix ticket or was it just a regular ticket? If it's a regular ticket you have to pay up; if it's a fix, then you need to determine what exactly the ticket says you have to get fixed (may just be the exhaust) and change it to something CARB legal and take it in. As others have said, selling your car doesn't fix the ticket to my knowledge. Good luck.

Re: (gstrudler)
cops are jerks here, i got pulled over for nothing a lot of times first thing they ask is pop ur hood, i had thouse fixing tickets and went to ref, its easier to pay for the ticket then go to ref cuz i spended lots of money going to ref cuz everytime it wont pass cuz of something stupid and they take hella long and waste of time for me i ended up paying more for ref then the ticket was, but i did a sound level on my exhaust it passed after i did that i didnt got pulled over after that, but everything else has to be carb legal.

Re: (dre2day)
adding a turbo isnt necessarily modifying your exhaust. the law on modfiying exhaust is more of a stipulation that you cant modify the exhaust in a way that it is louder than what it was from stock. so that means no open downpipe. just stick to a less restrictive cat and maybe 2.25" piping.

Re: (bluedlude)
Well here in the CA you can't do anything really without some cop writing you a ticket.
Cant have front tinted windows.
Cant have a tubro.
Cant have a aftermarket header
Cant have a exhaust.
HELL YOU CAN't even have a *****
lol

my friend got pulled over in his 03 mustang GT for a modified exhaust also. he ended up selling the car without fixing the problem first. i forgot what happened exactly but he did get away with it.
