I was at the stop light one day and looked into my rear view mirror to see a motorcycle cop rolling up, he stopped just at my right rear quarter panel, shut the bike off and listened to my muffler. Light turned green, he started it back up and turned on his flashers. After I pulled over and he came up to me he said that he pulled me cause my muffler is "LOUDER THAN OEM", remember i'm at idle and you can barely hear it, thats why he had to turn off his bike. I didn't give him any hassle I just said ok, he wrote the ticket and I left, paid it shortly after and called it that.

Well i know for a fact that fredricksburg is no Springfiled/chantilly/ NOVA. The cops are probably more laid back and dont give a ****. Dont worry about it bro.

In CA, it use to be that a cop had to use a sound meter to check if the car was louder than 95 dB. Now it's up to the cop's discretion if it is too "loud"

Found some laws worth pointing out in that link on the first page..

Spitting in public
Statute: 18.2-322
Fine: $15
Processing Fee: $67
Total: $82

Bicycle on highway without adequate brake
Statute: 46.2-1066
Fine: $15
Processing Fee: $57
Total: $72

Driving more than 13 hours in a 24-hour period
Statute: 46.2-812
Fine: $30
Processing Fee: $57
Total: $87

Unlawful riding of animal on highway at night
Statute: 46.2-800.1
Fine: $30
Processing Fee: $57

FIGHT IT ALL THE WAY, FORGE A COPY OF A CERTIFICATE FROM APEXi! DO NOT JUST PAY! talk to prosecutor, talk to the cashier, talk to the office workers, find some loophole, find some flaw in the officers procedure, documentation or ticket. ::sigh:: good luck bro, maybe get a WS.

I thought on the loudness thing, you could bring it to get checked, if you pass the test from then on out if you ever get pulled over, you could take it to court and show the judge that you passed that decibal test and your scott free.

I live in virginia and have never heard of this law before.......there are muffler shops all over my area, I am wondering if "anything is illegal besides stock" then how are these places even running.......cops don't give a **** were i live except if you have a freaking fart can that is loud *** hell.

oh the thing that pisses me off is everybody can run around with their loud *** V8's but a 4 cylinder gets a ticket because of a muffler that isn't half as loud, just pisses me off!!

Yea its discrimination at its finest. Until there could be a cold hard way of bringing it to the publics attention then it will continue to happen. I feel like a black man.
But yea the way those aftermarket muffler shops stay straight is probably by the "offroad" Rule. Ya know what i mean?

Well I'm gonna go to a police station to see if I can find any information about this matter. How I see it if I paid the ticket I would be admitting to guilt, and supposed to change the exhaust. But that is stupid because then the person can pay it off and just keep the fart can on. I think its away for the state to get money. I feel if I got a OEM exhaust and went to a police station then they could just sign it off. At least they are trying to fix the real problem and not just taking our money.

yea you could try that, but i highly doubt they would do that. FFX cops tend to be ********. But keep us updated if that works.

if he asked me that i would tell his ***, your goddamn right it is!

Nitrous is legal in the commonwealth of VA.

i have an email from Captian D.W. Robertson, safety officer, Virginia DOT.

it states...

Q: can i have a nitrous oxide system installed in my car?
A: YES

Q: can i have the bottle attached to the lines, which run to the engine?
A: YES

Q: can the bottle be filled?
A: YES

Q: can it be used on the streets?
A:YES

- all of these things are okay. however, if any of the compinents to the emissions system are affected or by-passed, then the vehicle will be illegal because the emissions system is not functioning properly. Also if the nitrous oxide system has any leaks it will not pass inspection.

[/email]

a lot of things are BS of what people say. call the safety comissioners office and ask. thats what i did and when he told me that i asked him to email it to me. you would be surprised what you can and cannot get away with in the "great" state of VA.

Well I emailed him in the morning and this is his reply...

Section 46.2-1049 of the Code of Virginia addresses exhaust systems:

§ 46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order.

No person shall drive and no owner of a motor vehicle shall permit or allow
the operation of any vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an
exhaust system of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or
comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard
factory equipment, in good working order and in constant operation to
prevent excessive or unusual noise. An exhaust system shall not be deemed to
prevent excessive or unusual noise if it permits the escape of noise in
excess of that permitted by the standard factory equipment exhaust system of
private passenger motor vehicles or trucks of standard make.

The term "exhaust system," as used in this section, means all the parts of a
motor vehicle through which the exhaust passes after leaving the engine
block.

Chambered pipes are not an effective muffling device to prevent excessive or
unusual noise.

Captain D. W. Robertson
Safety Officer

Guess no point in fighting it in court, guess I'll just pay the fine

Yep just as i stated before. Like i said though you might have a chance of the judge dropping it. Ive been to court alot lately, dont ask why and the majority of the judges i saw were pretty cool and dropped alot more fucked up **** like driving on a suspended. Then again fairfax is filled with a **** load of mean *** judges so yea. Your decision bro. 85 bucks aient no joke.

Is your exhaust comparable to OEM? I'm not sure how they define comparable, but if you have a muffler and it's not extreamly loud I don't see how you were breaking the law.
