Anyone have a diagram for testing a crank sensor for a 1996 Si? Need to test it to make sure it's bad. The only helms manual I have is for '93 which has that sensor in the distributor.

Please help me get my car started. It stalled and died a few days ago and I have finally figured out that it's getting no spark. Changed the igniter, and coil with a know working one and still not cranking. Someone told me that it could be the crank sensor which is located behind the timing cover but I want to test it first because that's a lot of work to be guessing at. Plus it has no check engine light on.? The only light that was on was the IAT and that's been fixed so I am stumped. Fuel pressure is good.....

hey im pretty sure that the 96 OBDI does not have the crank sensor mounted in the front by the timing housing. i have a 93 which does not have one there.
I know this doesnt solve your problem but may save you some time in digging down there when you dont have to.

Thanks but I'm 1000% percent it's there. Changed it today. No go. Still not firing up. Next stop is distributor. After that, a for sale sign will be on it.

96 is an OBD2, its rare and good for the ECU without an immobilizer

Check resistance between terminals 1/2 and 3/4, should be between 0.5-1.0kΩ, if there is none then the sensor is bad.

Thanks a lot Minilogoguy! Exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I went ahead and replaced the sensor, timing belt, balance shaft belt, etc only to find that it still wasn't cranking! Checked computer again and opened it to find that the ecu was fried ...
