Default Clutch Issues

I was driving home from work, and went to use my clutch when all of a sudden I noticed it being softer than usual. I can now press the clutch to the floor, if I push hard. It still engages fine and I can shift gears but I'm not sure what happened. The first inch of travel there is no resistance. Its full of hydraulic fluid.

Whats wrong w/ it? I was thinking its either the slave or master cylinder but which one? The clutch is only 2yrs old

THe first inch is free play....all clutches have a little amount of free play in them. did the free play get bigger when you realized the clutch got softer? try bleeding the system, you could have got air in the somehow.

it doesnt matter how old the clutch is,, my ACT clutch, was only 3.5 months old, and it completely went out. but, it didnt happen like urs.. it sounds like ur slave could be leaking...

rite wen mine went out i could... other than that... i could, but it was really hard...( stage 3 clutch) but wen my slave was leaking,, it would go straight to the floor, with very little resistance. look at the slave cylinder on the front of the trans. and pull back tha rubber boot a lil. if there is fluid in that bad boy, replace it. hopefully that will be the prob. save u some money. its like 80 bucks from honda.

I beg to differ on that. I have a Exedy 3-puck Cerametallic disc and the 1st inch is ALL of my pedal travel. I only have to move the pedal an inch to operate the clutch...

Anyhow, do check your slave cylinder and bleed the system.

Spend $10 for a rebuild kit.

Same if not less labor involved and you save $20. I got mine at O'Reilly's and it includes a new piston/seals/spring/boot cover. Takes 5 minutes to replace but actually getting to it takes some time. I had to remove the fan shroud which involves jacking the car up and removing the splash shield to access the 2 lower fan shroud bolts and harness.
