Check Engine Light - Cat Converter
My girlfriends car had the check engine light come on. When the dealership ran the codes, it came back that the catalytic converter is plugged...exhast something. I don't know the exact code. Any suggestions on the best way to fix this? Aftermarket pipe? Will the check engine light stay on if we just remove the converter? Is there any problem with driving this as it is now? Thanks

Your best bet is to get a new converter because if you remove it then you will not be able to pass state inspection. The inside of converters sometimes break apart which causes them to plugg up and that sounds like the problem that you are having. Just get a new one either from Honda or a local parts store.

No state inspection here, the great state of Oregon...
Could I just get a section of piping with flanges welded to it to replace it with? Will this mess with the O2 sensor or trip any other codes?

yeah that would be cool, you should look into an axle back exhaust upgrade.
pretty much your whole exhaust system stays the same except from your axle and back, they are anywhere from $100 and up depending on the company.

Re: Check Engine Light - Cat Converter (SMSP)
before my current setup I had no cat, I actually had just a downpipe and a resonator. I never once threw codes and my car was an obd2. I also know people with hollowed out converters, and no there is no check engine light.
the 02 sensor just has to be plugged in somewhere. no false info.

Good luck in whatever you end up trying. I had that same code. I put on a magaflow cat (nothing was wrong with our cat after removal and inspecting it) It still threw code 67. I got a Denso 02 sensor. Still threw the code. I gave up and just drove with the light on. I read on another forum where someone did the same as I did but replaced both 02 Sensors and it never fixed the problem. I wish you the best of luck in getting this fixed.
