car vibrates when I put it into drive. (I HAVE A PRELUDE)
2001 Honda Accord (edit: oops i meant prelude not accord)
Automatic
Base
I recently purchased this car just last weekend. It rides great, tranny shifts between ok to good (for now at least) I still have 30000 more miles on the tranny before the 100000 mile warranty expires.
The problem I have here is that when the car is in Park or Reverse the car sits and feels normal. There is no rattling, no shaking, no tremble. But as soon as I put it into D4 the car starts shaking. It's not a violent shake, it shakes to wear its noticeable. but when i start driving the shaking stops. I normally experience this when sitting at a red light. and sometimes the rattling isnt as noticeable. For instance, on a cold start if i put it to D4 before the car warms up I will feel the shaking much more vs when I allow the car to warm up. On the tachometer thats built onto the instrument guage shows that it idles around 600-750 rpm (just below the 1000 rpm mark). Could it be a bad motor mount? If I put it into reverse I don't experience that at all. I can leave it in reverse all day long and it would sit there idling really well.
any of you guys have an idea to why it does this?
Thanks dudes,

Re: (androO)
ok there is like 2 other dudes with vibration problems too. why is my thread being neglected?
haha ok so yeah i cehcked the idling and it seems to be fine must be a motor mount. could it be the tranny? because if it is the motor mount should it be doing that also in reverse?
someone help.
please?

yea my front one is ripped off! the rubber is like dettached from itself. I can tell if the rear ones are bad or not but I might as well replace them.
why do motor mounts go bad? is it because of all the heavy pedal mashing? would that decrese the life of the motor mount?

Dont know for sure, but time and the way you drive the car would be a big determining factor I would imagine.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by androO »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

They just go bad over time...rubber doesn't last forever, especially softer rubber they use to keep the car's vibrations down. Time also deteriorates the rubber so there you go...they go bad
You can get polyurethane inserts for ~$30-40 that will essentially fix the mounts but will make the engine stiffer. This will be better for performance (I gathered you're not too interested in that) but will cause more vibrations. Otherwise just get new mounts...or another option, if you do a little research, is to fill them with some window weld adhesive from the hardware store and that will essentially fix them too.

yeah im not into the whole performance thing but I do like the idea of increasing the life of the mount with inserts. I mean as long as the car doesnt shake like it does now i think anything would be better. i'll look into that.

Just keep in mind that the inserts will give you a steady vibration at idle because they're transferring more of the engine vibration to the body.

understood sir!
i can imagine it already, since teh motor mount is going to be stiffer it will cause the vibration of waves to be passed along through the whole chassis of the car. if the insert were to be removed, the rubber would actually do a better job of absorbing those waves. but since i dont care to absorb all of the vibrations, i will add in the inserts instead so it will improve the life or the motor mounts so i dont have to frequently change them.
however, i'm unsure to why these inserts would improve the performance. the only thing i can see is that it prolongs the life of the mounts. which is
