Default Auto tranny slipping after fluid change...

Alright well, i know most everyone here pretty much want nothing to do with auto trannies...but i'm hoping someone can help. I just drained the tranny fluid in my car (used some tranny fluid from walmart before) and put in 3 quarts of honda tranny fluid...now the tranny seems to be slipping...the first few shifts it has to do its fine...but it progressively starts slipping worse and worse untill it just acts as if its in neutral while in D4. if i throw it in neutral and shut her down and turn her back on...she'll shift fine a few times agin and then same thing...slippage and stops shifting.. i checked the fluid level and its fine...and it was working fine (though shifted hard) before the fluid change...any ideas on whats goin on or what i can do?
i know, its time for a manual swap...and i'm working on it...just dont have the money for the axels that i still need....so any help on keeping this ugly tranny running as long as i possibly can so i can get the money together...would be AMAZING

did you recheck the fluid level ? maybe the last fluid caused some failure.

i rechecked it about 10 or 15 times...the fluid i used said approved for honda automatics....when i changed the fluid it DID come out brown...and it ran PERFECTLY for about 30 miles....and then it started doing this...i just dont get why it seems to fix itself for about 2 shifts (doesnt matter what gear) if i shut the car off and turn it back on...

strange the only fluid approved for honda's and acura's is sold thru honda only not any parts store unless they buy it from honda. lots of mfg's use different chemicals in their fluid and may not hold up to the heat and provide the shift quality.

first off, honda transaxles are very specialized transmissions, they have 3 shafts in them essentially they are considered a "automated manual transmission" therefore they require Honda ATF only, anything else usually causes problems.

drain ALL the fluid you put in there out from the drain hole, then plug it up.

remove the lower oil cooler hose and start the engine, the fluid will **** out of that line.

while the car is running put a funnel in the fill hole and slowly fill it with with HONDA ATF.

keep doing this until the cooler line is pissing out new/clean fluid, then shut off engine.

top off transmission as necesary to get it in on the dipstick.

dont forget to check it with the engine off!

drive it 5/10 miles and re-check the fluid.

if this does not do anything then is might be a clogged valve body, or pump passage.

-good luck

Thanks for the advice i flushed out the tranny and nothing...i even tried some lucas stop slip treatment and nothing...it's just driving me insane that it'll do this, but if i turn it off even while rolling, and turn it back on, bam its fine again for 2 more shifts

check if there is trowing a code the ligth of the gear in the dash ... may be it can be just a sensor just like my was it was doing almost the same thing as your running good like for 2 mnts and then start shifting hard and it was the main shaft sensor in the transmission the sensor plug was bad just check if it is throwing a code the tranny

my mainshaft sensor is completely dead...its been dead for a long long long time, actually since i got the car, and its never done this. also the d4 light doesnt blink. but when i check for cel codes it'll give me a tranny code 15, mainshaft sensor...i checked it with my multimeter and its dead...but i dont get why that would suddenly be the problem after a tranny fluid change

I did find a post of a guy who has the EXACT same problem as me in an accord, somewhere on fixya.com i think it was...but he didnt find a solution.... he said eventually the car would drive fine for a couple months and then the problem returned =/

the honda service manual says all the dead mainshaft sensor should do is cause harsh shifts...and it was never a problem before...

bump! any progress/solution? i'm having a similar issue! havent changed the fluid yet, but i'm trying to find all possible solutions before i go and waste money...

i'm not trowing any codes at all and shifts great for about 5 mins, then slips and i cant even manual shift it... if i turn it off it comes back for another maybe 2-3 minutes then bam again!
