Antenna Removal/installation
I have a 94 honda prelude si and my antenna won't retract up or down. So I decided to buy a new antenna and now I just need to remove the old antenna with the motor and everything. The thing is I don't know how to remove the whole thing anyone got any ideas?

Does the motor run when you turn on/off your radio? If so your fix could be as easy as just buying the antenna only. The teeth can break off especially in an older car.

the thing is I can make the antenna move up or down but if I use my hand, and by itself it won't go up. It just makes this loud noise when I turn on the antenna but it won't go up.

when looking in the trunk pull the right interior piece off(same side as antenna) there is a single nut i believe u need to take off. unplud the power to the antenna, unplug the actual antenna that leads to your radio. go outside the car and losen the silver ring around the antenna off pliers is your best bet. then take that bitch out. sorry for the shitty explaination.

^^How you take it out, which you're going to have to do regardless. Not sure what you paid for the motor and the antenna but your motor seems to be running fine (noise). If you can take the one you bough back, a replacement antenna (w/out the motor) comes with the teeth and all and should run you about 14 bucks. After that it's fairly simple to take out the old and put in the new.

Basically. The antenna has a long plastic strand of teeth attached to it. There is a gear that turns when the radio is shut down which then retracts the antenna. What usually happens is the teeth break off and the gear has nothing to turn. If your motor is fine, don't waste the money on another one, just get a new antenna mast and swap it out.

and that is why i can move the antenna up and down by force but not by itself, makes sense. But where does the noise that it makes come from?

Re: (paniaguae640)
The noise you're hearing is the antenna motor trying to retract/extend the antenna. As the teeth are gone it has nothing to grip but it still turns.
