AEM or Hondata?

AEM or Hondata?
Did the whole search thing and couldn't really find any good info on the comparison of both.
Basically I have got to the point in my build (h22a4) where I need to select an engine management system. I have been debating whether or not to run an aem f/ic piggyback or hondata s300.
I am looking for some input on the devices.
Which is easier to install?
Which one is better? (easier to tune, offers more programs, ect.)
Any other input in welcome
Sorry I know these questions may seem stupid, but the truth is I don't quite understand what all the little features are on both devices so any help is appreciated.
If it matters, car is a fully built N/A engine at 11.5 to 1 compression and some aggressive cams so engine management is huge!

Re: AEM or Hondata?
Since it sounds like you are looking at a piggyback compared to an actual ecu, I would go for the Hondata. The AEM EMS is really good, but alot more work, so your tuner really needs to have their **** together to build the maps and get everything sorted.

X2 on the Hondata, but I run Neptune RTP FWIW and like it a lot.
BTW heres a link on why piggybacks aren't great http://wikitest.pgmfi.org/twiki/bin/...PiggybacksSuck

Between the two options given, go with Hondata S300 in an OBD1 ECU setup. However, above those two, I'd go with the Neptune/Demon setup. It's a little more affordable and more options than the others, better support, etc.. Worst thing you can do is go with a piggyback setup.

There's absolutely no reason to keep obd2 when you can simply plug in a jumper and obd1 ECU and tune from there. If you are worried about smog, etc.. simply remove the jumper and ECU and plug your stock ECU back in place. This is easier and quicker than removing your "piggyback" setup when it comes time to smog, etc.

Hondata, I keep discovering new things it can do. Not to mention, you don't have to buy everything up front, you can buy stuff as you need it.

Re: AEM or Hondata?
Well i am for sure keeping it OBD2 so I am either going with the GReddy e-Management or AEM piggybacks. The thing is that unless you are having a full blown race engine I don't see why converting it to OBD1 and running Hondata or Neptune is worth it. I am daily driving the car so I think running a piggyback and keeping it OBD2 is fine.... However I could be wrong. What is better to work with out of GReddy or AEM?

Re: AEM or Hondata?
Greddy is terrible.
Those programs are just so limited. You get a much better tune with obd1 software. Unless you are stuck with emissions you are literally thrpwing your money away with piggybacks.

Re: AEM or Hondata?
Okay so if I converted to OBD1 what exactly would I need?
I am assuming a jumper harness to go from the OBD2 engine harness to the OBD1 ECU?
And of course I would need a OBD1 ECU. Would a p28 ecu work with out problems or altering the engine harness?
And finally something to tune with. Hondata, Neptune, ect.
Any help or input is great

Re: AEM or Hondata?
**** p28 chipped 2step tuned all day and is cheap as hell but i would go hondata out of those two and as far as buying hondata to tune the p28 the tuner should take care of all that they normally have the programs at the shop

You can probably pick up a p28 or p72 ECU on here, or from your local salvage yard fairly cheap, a p28 comes in 92-95 Civic Ex. Try www.car-part.com, a salvage yard search engine.
OBD2 to OBD1 jumper harness http://www.boomslang.us/obd2to1.htm plug one end in to your existing harness, plug the other into your ECU.

Re: AEM or Hondata?
Hondata is kind of crusty...download the software for each and see which you like better. I use EcTune, Neptune is awesome as well.
I haven't had any experience with the AEM piggyback tho...
Hondata, Neptune, and EcTune, and Crome all compile down to the same code that executes on the OEM motherboard so its really a matter of preference when considering the tuning software.
The reason I say Hondata is crusty is because simple things like injector compensation offsets aren't built into the software and they are when it comes to its competitors, so you have to figure them out on your own; also when compared to the tuning software of its competitors it is lacking the polish of its competitors.
