96 prelude with a broken timing belt
im looking to buy a 96 prelude non vtec. it has 90,000 miles on. but the timing belt is broken.
how can i tell how much damage is done? (ie. bent valves? it broke doing around 40mph).
should I just replace the timing belt and try and start it and see from there? or can i take the valve cover off and check valve clearances?

well the guy isnt ready to sell just yet.. and he gave me a figure what he'd sell it for, but its too high. i might just get him to pay me to fix it.
i wonder if i replace the t/b then try starting the car or running a compression test to fing out.
can i just check valve lash? is that possible?

Re: (prelude_h22vtec)
he's asking $2000 for it. The hood, roof and trunk paint is completely faded and ****. It hasn't been driven in almost a year. It's 5spd. 90,000 miles. Interior is clean. Engine bay is pretty clean too. Over all, from what I seen, it needs 4 tires, head and timing belt fixed and a good tune up. So probably an extra $1500 and the car should be good.

I've got a complete H23 motor I'd sell you for $300 picked up if that engine is heavily damaged. Also take $150 picked up for just the head ($175 shipped) if all you have are bent valves
