92 prelude si stalls when hot
hey guys there are many posts for this problem but mine seems a bit different. It runs fine cold and ok warm but when i drive for longer periiods of time it will stall. Only when i am idling tho. It will only start when i unplug the pcv. It smokes alot when warm so i thought it may be the valve seals. Does anyone think if i replace the valve seals and recheck lashings it would help?

Re: 92 prelude si stalls when hot
i replaced the broken old one with a new one and a new grommet and it still has the same problem. i do know however that if the smoke is blue its oil and if its white its coolant, at least i think that's right, anyway i noticed it is going through a lot of coolant relative to how much i drive it(which is like never since it has this problem) so i was thinking maybe the head gasket is blown somewhere. does that sound right to anyone?

Buy a compression tester, and remove the main relay to disable the fuel pump and pull the ecu fuse to disable the ignition system and compression test it.

You can also perform a leak down test. If coolant can get into the combustion chamber you can sometimes see air bubbles coming out the radiator during a leakdown.
So you are blowing white smoke? Did the car overheat at some point?

dude ur motor shouldnt burn oil or coolent. mine doesnt:/ i heard of this stuff that u can put in your radiator to help stop small leaks through ur head gasket before they turn into holes, its not a fixer, but a preventative. if i were you, id try a coolent flush and put some chemicals in and see if its fixed. if not ur only out liek 25$ (couple jugs of coolent, bottle of sealer, some water from ur tap..)

If you dont have a coolant pressure tester to find the leak just run the car and look for drips and leaks. It sounds like its going into the cylinders. Check the oil for coolant. If its present youve got a bad headgasket. If not drive the car until it dies on you and remove the spark plugs and check them for coolant. Also turn the motor over with the injectors uplugged and spark plugs out and look for mist coming out of the cylinders. Any overheating issues btw?

Re: 92 prelude si stalls when hot
well idk if it ever overheated at any point i just bought it about a month ago and as long as i have had it the thing has never overheated or even come close. i noticed the fans were not coming on when they needed to so i figured some relay was bad and just ran a toggle switch so i can cut them on when i want to. i dont have any testing tools yet but yes it is definitely white smoking alot and even if i let it run all day w no fans on sitting still it doesn't overheat. i have noticed though that i only drove it a few times and it sucked all the overflow form the coolant reservoir completely. Honestly i would rather just tear it up and replace every gasket possible for my own peace of mind than to use any additives. I try to stay away from those. i really do appreciate everyone's help tho thanks guys 8)
