Default 7k for an engine swap? WTF?

long story short, i hydrolocked my engine and the shop quoted me a lil under 7k to swap out my sh motor and put another one in w/ less than 70k. while it's out, they'll do all the maintenance bs. but 7k wtf? that is a gawt damn load of money.

do you think i'm gettin raped?
should i just take it home and fix it myself over the summer?

thanks

sounds hella expensive...are you planning to swap in another SH motor? or make your car a non-SH? are you getting a new tranny?

sounds a bit much, are they building the head or anything? are they just replacing the motor? there should be no reason for them to replace the tranny and ecu.
lets see you can source a motor for about $2-3k, about $1500 in labor I wouldn't pay more than $5500.
shop around, but dont go for the lowest price unless the place has a reutation for doing good swaps

seems way much man..
i was quoted 4gs ... complete engine swap.. including new drive shafts rad.. rad support beam (i think its called.. under your rad where your front engin mount is big fat cross over beam..)
with a computer harness etc...
and thats canadian
lol
jdm h22 is about 2-3 grand MAX
5g's you can grab a whole front clip lol
7 is a lil tarded
honda dealer is prob cheaper then this place lol
unless they are doing hardcore re-building no way you should pay that much..
even if they are slapping in new seals clutch etc.. it should not be that much thhey are probably giving you a high quote cuz a) your fucked and they think they have you by the ***** or most likely b) cuz they are quoting book value for the labour which does not take into consideration the fact that the whole new engine is out of the car and it takes a fraction of the time to do the work on it ie. cluthc seals etc..
if i were you and had a good idea of what i was doing id grab all the parts myself and do it then swap it in
but id get a second opinion and estimate maybe you dont need that stuff the shop says you do...

thats way too much...i would say $1000 labor tops and a max of $2k for the engine.

Seeing that you live in AZ, I would try to contact 2point6
on here. I believe he runs his own shop down there and
he could probably hook you up and let you know the best
options on what you should do motor wise, etc.

Hell for 7k, I'm sure he could make you more than happy
with your vehicle

Good luck

They must be planning some serious rebuilding, cause that is high. I would recomend a non-sh swap (ditch the ATTS) You can get a full swap and everything you need and get it installed by a Honda dealer for half that. So they must be doing buildup. There is no other explanation. Call them and ask them EXACTLY what they were doing for that amount af cash and get back with us. There is no way they are planning a simple swap. (coould be buying a HONDA BRAND NEW SWAP I suppose, but highly doubt). Let us know what you find out!

yeah yeah, i know that 7k is an *** raping. hell, a motor can be sourced for less than 3 k and all the misc **** would be under 600 and i could do all the **** myself, wouldn't be too hard.

and no, it's just to swap in another engine w/ ~70k miles on it, no rebuild, no new internals, etc.

if you pay that you are not smart. you can get the motor for 1100-1200. do the swap your self, but if not it only take a couple of hours so they are chargeing 100+ an hour for maint.

When my H23 went, a shop charged $4k. Jspec H23 installed (not what i wanted but dad didnt let me get the H22) , new CV axle boots, new clutch, and a bunch of other stuff. along with a 12k mile 12month warrenty on their work.

there is no jspec h23, it would be an f22b which would be stamped on the engine

7 grand??!?! if you dont mind me asking, what shop quoted you this?

all you really need to purchase is a longblock, which i cannot imagine anyone paying more than 1.5k for... if you didnt want to do it yourself, it shouldnt be very difficult to find someone that will do it for you for quite a bit less than 5.5k in labor...

btw, 2.6 is down in tucson, which is quite a ways from chandler...

WAY TOO MUCH.

if i had to pay that much, i'd sell my car and buy a 240sx or something and throw in a rb25det or something...

go ask around and stuff. the engine isnt even new......

it was this shop in tucson, "micro imports". i'm in tucson for school now, which is why i can't just do all the work myself, no time and no tools and no place.
