5th gen Short Shift kit
Hey there guys and girls(?),
Picking up my first 5th gen this weekend (only ever had 4th gens) and the shift kit I had my heart set on, made by Pspec tuning, has been discontinued as the company has shut down .
A cursory google search yielded nothing but cheap adapters. Anyone know of a good kit out there? A friend has the pspec one on his and really loves it. Easy install, feels great, no grinds, etc... let me know what you have/know of. Wether or not you like it etc.

I'd focus more on getting your shift cables in great order(or new ones) and zip tie them.
Short shifters are over-rated for the cable shifted trans.

I had one of these on my 95 and loved it, really heavy, solid feel. Only problem is they haven't began making them for the 5th gens yet. But apparently they are "in the works". This is probably what I'll end up getting unless a better option comes along. Just hoping it doesn't take them forever to finish development : /

Yeah man I have been looking for one for a while as well, I want a smoother shift and the shift **** not to be all the way up to the sun roof, a more shorter look like the pspec.

There is a way you can make this work on a 5th gen. I think all you need is the base plate or whatever its called and shift cables from a 4th gen then it'll work. There is info on this site about all this.

@Mugen22 - Have you had any experience with that kit? Seems like it would make for a much stiffer, more mechanical feeling shift. What exactly are the pros and cons of that thing?
@CAN97SH - I know about switching over shift cables and whatnot. I'd really prefer to keep away from doing that though. The only reason being switching over to older parts just to make a 4th gen shifter work. I know there's a better way out there somewhere.
Has anyone heard any recent news about the Forbidden Motor 5th gen one that's in development?
And lastly, this is sort of @Mugen22 again...How do you suppose the bushing and cables kit would do paired up with a short shift kit?

ive had the 4th gen setup in my racecar for years. simply puts its a better, crisper shift. even when i had just the stock 4g lever it was night and day.
i've also got brass bushings instead of rubber bushings. + a few other tricks a few of us have learned along the way.

There isn't one yet. Last thing I was able to find about this was that they had sent out some prototypes for testing to and then if all went well with that were going to begin producing some for sale.
But you liked the 4th gen cables in the 5th gen better? I've never owned a 5g so I'm not really familiar with the way they feel. How do you like the brass bushings? How does that really effect it? I'm guessing just less freeplay and alot stiffer feel? I'm not really trying to get this for a race application. So something way to harsh/stiff I want to avoid. Just nice crisp, shorter shifts for everyday driving

harsh and stiff is the same thing a racer doesnt want to feel.
want the best shift?
starting out with a trans that has good syncros and good gear sliders would be a good
stainless -3AN clutch line
wilwood inline residual brake valve
a good clutch
a short shifter will not fix a stiff, notchy shift. if you get a short shifter and it fixes those symptoms, your driving habits (or clutch and/or its adjustment) were the problem, not the components.
if people would actually think about this for a second and realize how a transmission works, how a clutch works and how shifting works; then put it all together......a lot of problems would get solved.
for instance: for years i had problems getting into 2nd gear at the track (on slicks) after the stock redline. it would completely lock me out even with all the mods to the shifting aspect. know what fixed it? a twin disc clutch. a 1000 dollar clutch fixed all my issues. it shifts like butter at 9000 rpm even with this transmission people call junk.

Not trying to fix anything lol. I haven't even picked the car up yet, going tomorrow though yay :D. But anyways, I was more asking how that bushing set would effect the feel. I'm not a mechanic. I can do brakes and whatnot but have no idea how a trans works...at least from any technical aspect. This thread was started to see if anyone knew of/had a good short shift kit for a 97-01. I'm not trying to drop 1000 on a twin disc clutch so I can fly into second at 9k. I'm trying to find something that will make my stock prelude 2% more fun to drive around town on a daily basis.

If you either find a PSPEC or a JTC short shifter then it may be a good pairing. That said my feet typically can't keep up with the shift throw anyway! At least not for road racing.

I agree they were spot on. Wasn't really what I was looking for but I may investigate it some more anyways. The cable snapping story sounds sketchy though lol. Well...this might belong in the FS/FT forum now but if anyone has a used pspec in good shape or a type-s intake PM me :D
