Unlike a car tire that has an almost square tire profile a motorcycles ir round and by placing a tire that is wider the profile goes from round to ovalish. A sideways squashed oval rather than a taller one.

Because the tire gets fatter near the rim, you are placing a section of useable tread 'out of bounds' so to speak. Your pegs will scrape and you'll still have 1/4" of tread left. Larger tires are of course heavier, and weight is always evil.

It's not the end of the world, and the effects of it really aren't that great when going from a 180 to a 190. I went from a 140 to a 160 on mine, but will be going back to a 150 in the spring.

Cheers,
Roy

Without going into details putting a 190 on a 5.5" is about the easiest way to ruin the handling of a bike. I'm sure you know someone who tried to gain more contact patch by squeezing an extra 10mm width auto tire on their wheels. If you don't know the car handles like a pig. The effect on a bike is absolute death to any respectable sportbike. I hate ******* audi upper control arm bolts

i had a 190 on my old RR that was intended to have a 180.basically,putting the wider tire on the wheel made for the narrower tire will just squeze the tire, making the profile taller and not much wider than the original 180.this will make the bike have a feeling of "falling" into a turn and probably decrease the contact patch when upright.the profile will now be more pointy shaped as opposed to a smoother round profile....not really any benefits, just a looks thing.
