You can lead a horse to water but you can not make him drink it, so how you interpret and accept the constructive criticism only reflects on you.

Giving TN a bad name?? haha your kidding right?? I have raced against many bikes, I have raced against 600 hp 240s 900 hp corvettes 750 hp mustangs. I have rode with the Goon Squad, 2 Down Riders, Poppaclutch. If the dude wants to ride a 1000 thats on him. If he wants to stunt, just ride, or race thats on him.
what the hell is a poppaclutch?
im guessing biker boy groups with there cool bandanas and leather vest with t-shirts on?
is this you?

Re: Looking at buying New 09' 1000RR "first bike"
my first bike was a f4i, two months later my girlfriend got a sv650. I put more miles on the sv then my own bike. I think that a sv650 is a great starter bike, small, it has enough power to go out and have fun on but not get you in as much trouble with the police as the bigger bikes do, and there cheap. Anyone who asks me would would be a good starter bike this is my answer. If I were to get another street bike (she sold it for school money) this is what I would get.

I guess if I wanted good advice I could have gone to a real motorcycle forum, with a little bit more mature moderator...
Thanks to those of you who actually had some good input
I picked up my 09 1000RR last week and did 170 on my way home

Wowsa, I haven't looked at this thread in a while and it's gotten pretty silly in here. Sunset is a moron...Jon V will be scraped off the road in a few months after a few more 170mph freeway runs...and MSchu is my hero as always

I have a CBR1000RR8. This bike is an absolute pussycat. There is less chance of going over the speed limit in town than on a naked 600. The clutch, throttle and fueling are perfect. It is dead easy to ride and has masses of grunt and will pull from 2000rpm in any gear. You could drive in top all day.
But;
Do not whack it open in first.
Do not use the revs as for a 600. 7000rpm puts about 100bhp through the back tyre.
This machine really comes into its own above 80mph, when it goes ballistic in third. Even in 6th 130mph comes up in a flash. The acceleration comes in with a rush and could easily catch a less experienced rider out if the throttle is abused. Treat the throttle with respect and it is a pleasure to drive quickly.
The front brake are ace, but the initial bite is fierce. One finger braking only. Grab it and you are doomed.
The rear brake is almost useless in town, but gets better.
Slipper clutch works so well you don't even know it is operating.
But, watching the countryside, you cannot do this from any sports bike. The riding position is all wrong.
If you want to do this buy a CB1000RR. I test drove on and was well impressed. I almost traded in my Street Triple for it, but the salesman made a stupid mistake with the price and lost the sale.
What about a Triumph Street Tripple R. This bike is mental. Or the larger Speed Tripple.
But if you are set on a sports bike, the 2009 Fireblade is the bike. Nothing else comes close. Don't buy a new one. I bought one 6 months old, 1200miles and pristine for £7500 on a good trade in for an RRY Fireblade.
I wish you the best.

Re: Looking at buying New 09' 1000RR "first bike"
Jon, You really should listen to experience. These guys/girls have ridden ALOT more than you have and know from experience what is right. Don't act like a teenager who knows better than mom and dad. If you are looking at getting a used bike (again, listen to the experience in this group - I did and bought a '01 CBR 600F4I and glad that I did) you really need to ride each used bike that you are considering. The 600 I have runs extremely well and is VERY STRONG. Just like they have said in this forum, 600's are still FAST. I have just bought a salvage 1000rr that I am starting to rebuild, so my 600 will be available soon in case you are interested. One thing that I used to calm the bike down, and to get 50 MPG is changed the sprockets to +3/-2 (the extremes that I could go). This puts me at 70MPH at 5,500RPM. It doesnt have the pull from a stop but this is a good thing for a newer rider. Just watch out for the top end though.
Again, there is probably 2,000 years of combined riding experience in this forum, you have none, how can you know more?

Yup same guy...
I'm a mod on K-20a.org, a mod that actually gives advice and information not just useless single sentance nonsense comments...
I don't think I said I know more than anyone in this forum, in fact I think my original post says I dont know much at all about riding. I was asking for input and read and responded to everyone who actually posted some factual info. I did not give the comments made by people who posted there opinions, with no info or reasoning, any thought whatsoever as they did not give my question any themselves...
Your guys Mod MSchu must be one hell of a rider cause he sucks as a mod, but you guys all love him...

You must have lost his great post during the "Tennessee Incident". He actually wrote a very good summary of why he made a short post, and explained his opinion very clearly.
To be honest, the comic progression of this thread was ****ing incredible.
OP wants opinion --> OP begins to come around --> STUNT4LYFE--> 170 MPH inexperienced rider making comments about maturity
