Customer "problem"
so this customer bought a new R6, its his first bike and he lives in NYC and claims that while riding it and comming to a stop the unit just dies from a dead battery...
Now what im thinking is the customer is so overjoyed with his new bike that theyre going to a parking lot and riding it around...turning it on and off constantly not giving the battery a chance to charge....
anyways this customer is pissed because we havent been able to duplicate the problem in the shop and he swears the bike is defective and wants a new bike.... the tech tested it riding it home and back for a few days and nothing...hooked it up to a volt meter and everything while riding it and it didnt show any big flucation in charging it
Ive told the customer to go pound sand basically but Im just concerned that hes going to keep comming back with this "problem" so anyone have any ideas?

Re: Customer "problem" (crxgurlllll)
Where you located? Are you at Hahm Motorsports? but yeah its just like PC troubleshooting or any kind of trouble shooting for that matter....if you cant duplicate it, its a real bear to fix. I mean you should listen to peoples complaints then when they duplicate it its like waay different from what you expected.

give him a chance to prove it if you have the time. sounds like he is just being a noob and leaving the clutch out or kickstand down or kill switch on. chargin systems are pretty simple, either the batt is holding a charge or it isnt.
there is just not much there to keep it form NOT starting, esp if your service guys have gone thru it.

Re: (smokee)
I work at a car stereo shop and we're pretty good at diagnosing electrical issues. The Honda World across the street and sometimes even Lexus send us vehicles that they can't or don't want to touch.
As for batteries.. some defective batteries can show 12V on a digital multimeter but doesn't produce current. So if you get a battery load tester (it stress tests batteries) and you squeeze the trigger, on a fully charged battery, for one second, it should stay in the green. If it drops into the black zone, it's a faulty battery. There's fancy electronic load testers too.
But if you do this right in front of the customer (it also helps to have a faulty battery there next to you) they have something tangible to comprehend so they're usually cool.
There can be many things that cause a bike to shut off and there's no way to pin point it w/o replicating the problem. What I would tell him is that you have no problems diagnosing an issue but if there are no problems found, you're going to have to bill him for labor. If he's not satisfied w/your diagnose, he's free to get a second opinion and if they find a problem, have him pay for it, then send you the bill. But let him know that if they don't find a problem, they're going to stick him with another diagnose bill.
As for giving him a new bike, tell him that's impossible and to read his buyer contract. Issues regarding malfunction is only covered under warranty. Then if there's been warranty work done on a specific part of the vehicle more than 3 time, the customer has the right to hire a lawyer and have the dealership perform a Lemon Law Buyback.
Unless the problem was found, that wouldn't qualify for warranty work, therefore, not leading to a Buyback potential.

Yes you can. If he's under the impression that there's something wrong, and you've done everything in your professional powers to assess the issue, and yet he still wants you to perform work that is out of the ordinary, you can bill him.
Like I said, tell him to go to another dealership for a 2nd opinion if he thinks you're not doing everything you can.

Re: (ScareyH22A)
i am rather confused by this tale.
1) crxgurlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll lives in anaheim
2) customer lives in NYC
why would crxgurlllllllllllllll be involved if the customer is from new york? if the bike is out east, shouldn't he be at a yamaha dealer somewhere on the east coast?
i need the clif notes version
