Default Coring the exhaust on a CBR600RR?

I have a friend who has a '06 CBR600RR and would like it make it sound better, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money. I looked at the stock muffler, and it looks like if you take the two covers off the end, you could grind through the four welds holding the end cap on, and then simply cut out the restrictor tube, re-weld those four spots (or even pop rivet it), and put the covers back on.

So, has anyone done this, or something like it, to the stock exhaust on a CBR600RR?

A few people have just taken a stock muffler and drilled straight through the outlet towards the inlet of the can. If you do it this way, you won't be able to predict how it will sound and you likely won't get any performance gains. I would say buy another stock slip-on to mod and keep yours in case it goes awry.

If your friend can afford an '06 600RR, how come he can't afford an aftermarket slip-on?

He's in college and put the money he earned over summer into buying his bike used. He spends his money on worthwhile things like gear and the MSF. This past weekend we installed new Goodridge brake lines. He doesn't want to spend the money on an exhaust, but would like to make the bike sound better.

I would say, save the money, when you find a cheap used slipon, get that, other than that, keep it stock, modifying must be done for the better IMO.

I have an SV, and I cored the muffler on it, and I like it better than a slipon since it sounds great, but was free and I never get hassled by cops.
