I understand your pain, R1's are just too damn slow. Unless you want to race in a straightline or fancy a crack at the world wheelie speed record which are both pointless IMO er.....what's the point?

Spend 3K on track days instead

Yea I realized that turbo wasnt the way to go. The point was though that I wouldnt be spending hardly any money becase I have almost all the necessary parts except for the manifold.

You can run twisties with a turbo bike! I ran my bike stock wheelbase for over a year with the turbo on it. I could run with my friends anywhere they wanted to go. If it is something you want to do, dont listen to anyone that hasnt tried it or doesn't have any experience with it, just try it out for yourself

I am sure it is possible but like I said IMO its pointless. Anyone who thinks an R1 needs a turbo to be quick enough needs examining. Greater skill is portable, greater HP is not.

Yea luke I see what your saying. The problem is I live in shitty Iowa where tracks arent a 10 minute drive away and most roads are straight.

My nearest track is 1.5 hrs. The nearest track that is actually any good is 2hrs. I am pretty sure that the novelty of being able to wheelie at 130 would wear off and not being able to get on the throttle that hard out of a corner would become a pain.

First, trust me the novelty doesnt wear off. Secondly, you dont need to wind it out of a corner to power out, if you make more hp at 5-6k than you do normally aspirated at 9-10k rpm, you can loaf out of a corner faster. Dont knock it if you have never tried it. Thats almost like saying that the Moto Gp guys dont need all that hp to go that fast. Ask Team Mr. why they got banned from Formula X-Treme in the mid 90s with they're turbo 900rr.......Total Domination! Turbo style!

So answer me why the 250's are almost as quick as the 1000's and actually still hold several lap records....must be the turbo

300 lbs and ~250 HP M1

220lbs amd ~93HP TSR250

So you are saying the higher power to weight ratio of the 900's doesn't mean its faster, glad we agree. Unless you can show me a 205HP 250GP bike...perhaps it has one of your turbo's lol.

I am sure a turbo is fun, but corner speed is where its at. Each to their own.

I use to have a Dragon fab( Team MR.) turbo system on not 1 but 2 differnt CBr 900 rrs. The first I installed the second I bought from Mike and Tracy Mac Intyre ( owners of (Mr. Honda, suzuki in El Paso, TX and developer and riders in Formula extreme) . I now own a 1999 busa bought from the Macintyers ( I tradded in my 96 cbr 900 and bought this stock busa there.)
I had it a year before having Lee Sheirts do the motor. Sold the motor back to his friend ( because once you go turbo it very hard to go back) dropped the bike off on the way home from SC at The Motor heads (Dennis) to have a Mc Xpress turbo system put on it. As far as bike not lasting many miles before needing a rebuild (as someone said farther up in the message) blaaa. If done right its not a problem i have over 30K mine on my busa with the turbo installed and have not had any problems to speak of. They just have to be built right and tunned right. Then you just ride them like any other bike well, any other bike woth over twice the Hp of a stock one that is....

There was at least on Turbo 250 Gp engine made. it has been a while ago but it was developed for running in the GP side car races the had across the pond. made very good HP. But rules changed and it never was raced...

Yep corner speed is critical to fast lap times but so is your speed in the straights, witch one is more important depends on the track. although it is ushall the ability to hold high corner speeds.
