im trying to get a 1972 honda cl 350 back to running condidtion and need some help. if anyone on here is good with oldschool stuff plz give me a hand.

so this bike was given to me by my gramps before he passed away. it sat outside under a tarp alot but still looks decent.

i can start it and it will idle for a while but i cant give it any gas because it bogs out and stalls and after a while of idleing it stalls anyway and wont start again for a while. one plug looks fairly black and wet after this stall and the other looks brand new. I think it might only be firing on one cylinder. one pipe gets hot while other stays cold. I've been trying to adjust timing a little and i think ive gotten that pretty good. I get spark on both plugs and gas to both carbs. I cleaned out each carb completely and am basically stumped. plz help.

Chnage the sparkplugs and the oil and also put a new tank of fuel in it and see how it does.

Check the fuel lines to and from the petcock for damage or cracks - should prlly just replace all the fuel and vacuum lines anyway.

got the new plugs and oil
no tank on now, runnin fuel to carbs from a rigged soda bottle.
all the lines are new.

somethin more is goin on, like one cylinder not firein, not sure how to remedy it.

If you really do have a properly timed spark, and the right amount of fuel, maybe you don't have good compression. Basically those three things are all you need. Do you have some kind of starter fluid you can test with? How did you clean the carb?

i took the carbs off the bike and completely cleaned em washed out the bowl and blew out the jets. got all the gunk out.

so i was talkin to this guy today about my points and timing. he that the points fire when they open and the rest of the time should be closed. i thought it was the other way so i need to set the gaps on the points tomorrow different and see what happens

the plug wires could be bad even if you see a spark. It takes more juice to spark when the cylinder is under pressure. The resistance in the wires is probably very high in 30 year old wires.

Also if your carburetor parts are worn out, it doesn't matter how clean they are. Just another thing to think about.
