My tank (Fit) Now has 10,000 Kms on it. This winter i was getting 290 to 320 kms to a tank FULL of gas. I drive normal not a lead foot. The end of my exhaust pipe is black.
If i drive over a dime i can tell if it's heads or tails. There is a rattle now in my drivers door window. I had 18 cars in my life so far. None had a ride like my Honda tank (Fit) I am sick sick sick that i never bought a Mazda 3.
My Honda tank(FIT) cons. I get less gas mileage than a 2001 6 cylinder Dodge intrepid.(my second car) My 1972 VW bug with 300,000 miles had a better ride. My Honda Tank(Fit) When the probability of precipitation is over 55% my windows steam up. My Tank(FIT) has no glove box light. Last thing for now if on the highway and there is a light wind hang on with two hands the Tank (FIT) is all over the road...Do i own a leamon???? Or is that just a Honda Fit? OH" the pros of my Honda tank (FIT) it has 8 air bags

Sounds like someone didn't test drive his car. Besides the fuel thing, which is ridiculous and you should get that checked, everything else is bs.

My Fit rides fine, my windows dont fog [probably because I know how to use my defrost] and I knew when I bought it that I didn't have a glovebox light.

When i went for my first service check they told me let it break in and city driving will give you bad mileage.
About the windows that fill up with condensation on overcast days.Duh!! I know how to use the defrost. What you don't understand is that the windows shouldn't fill up with any condensation at any time. It's a Honda thing from what i hear.
The car i test drove wasn't the car i purchased. Oh" good for you That you knew that your Fit didn't come with a glovebox light.

I'm not here to argue with you so let me just say this:

The window problem, that USED to be a honda issue. It was on my older hondas. Since my 06 Civc and now my 07 Fit, I have never had this problem. If you are using your defrost and keeping your vents on "fresh air" and you still have this problem, try buying some window visors. That should work.

Almost forgot...

I get really crappy fuel mileage in the city as well. About two weeks ago though, I got about 38mpg on a trip from Philadelphia to Boston. I guess the Fit just gets crappy mileage in the city.

Window condensation IS NOT a window issue. It is 1: an air humidity issue inside your car window and 2: an air temperature issue outside your car windown.

You can't control the outside temperature so trying to fix that is useless. You can control the humidity quite easily in your car with the A/C. Simply turn it on. Adjust the air temperature as needed. Yes, this means you turn on the A/C even when it's cold out. The A/C removes moisture from the air entering your car reducing the potential of water vapor condensing on a cold window. A cold window cools the inside air right next to the window and if the air is too humid it can no longer retain its water in a vapor state. So it turns to water and sticks to your window - called condensation.

On the Fit if you turn the **** to defrost it automatically starts the A/C.

Secondly you're full of ****. No V6 car would get better MPG than a Fit. Don't be retarded. If you haven't noticed the Fit's gas tank is about half the size of many V6 powered cars.

I get 35-36 MPG 50/50 city highway... I seriously don't know how people get bad gas mileage like that...

Yeah, like Plim said, I don't think you're actually calculating MPG, but miles per tank, which is useless info. Tell us what your MPG is. Or whatever you metric system using fools use.

If you're wanting a For...I mean Mazda 3, sell your "tank." I'm sure you could sell it fairly quick if the demand up there is the same as here in USA, and get into a 3.

Wow, I thought my fuel consumption was bad.

I was getting almost 400km per tank, but pretty much all of it is in-town driving. I checked tire pressure a month ago and all were a tad low, except the passenger front, which was a good 7psi lower than where it should be. I pumped the tires up and mileage improved slightly. A bit over 400km per tank. Just had first oil change and it seems to be getting a little better still.

However, your engine should be fully broken in at this point, so that shouldn't be an issue. What I might focus on is the black exhaust tip. This could mean your particular Fit is running much too rich for some reason. If it is running rich, it will certainly contribute to poor mileage.

I got 32, 30, then 34 mpg on mostly freeway driving @ 65 mph. It's a Sport auto. Mostly means 3 miles to the freeway, 20 miles of freeway, 2 miles to the office. Reverse the order at the end of the day. Hopefully it'll get better. @ 1000 miles so far.

Just a quick update on my fuel consumption.

As I stated in my previous post in this thread, I had just gotten my first oil change. It seemed the fuel consumption was getting better, but I had not used up a tank since the oil change, so I wasn't sure.

I've had a couple of fill-ups since. I'm getting around 450km per fill-up, but that's a 36L fill-up. Remember, the fuel light will go on 5L or so before you're actually totally out of gas. And according to the receipts, I had only put in about 36 litre or so each time.

So based on those calculations, I'm now getting about 8L/100km, or about 29.4MPG (US) pretty much all city driving, which is on par with what I was expecting out of this vehicle. Getting all the crap out with the first oil change definitely helped. And keep an eye on your tire pressure. It will make a difference.

My girlfriend has a 2006 Mazda3 sedan and I love her car. I am saving up for my Honda Fit right now, I have already test-driven it and done some research into it. I know what I am getting into and I can tell you that the two cars are totally different. The mazda3 is a better car but also costs a lot more. The Honda fit is the best car for its price range, it looks good, handles well, and is supposed to get good gas mileage, and many magazines and authorities have named the Honda Fit the car of the year so I don't know why you are complaining so much. I don't think you spent enough time researching it or driving it and looking around/ examining it.

In the end, if you are still not satisfied with your Honda Fit, if you go to trade it for a Mazda3 know that you will be satisfied but the gas mileage will be between 28 - 31 for the Mazda3 from my experiences. Do what makes you happy, that's my philosophy.

Also, for anyone interested, I think it is worth mentioning that when my girlfriend first got her Mazda3, she was getting 17-18mpg in mixed city and highway driving. Currently it is not a surprise for her to get 32mpg with mainly highway driving. It took 14,000 miles for the car to reach its optimal advertised mpg.

Yeah, tire pressure is important as too low only adds more rolling resistance. Mine was too high from the dealer. I think it was close to 50 psi. Ride was harsh! Also, gas type (octane) makes a difference. Go with the recommended octane. Using high octane requires a hotter spark or advanced timing to make use of and only adds wasted cost. Another thing is weight. I test drove a Toyota Matrix and thought that it was gutless. Forgot to take into account the 220 lb friend, 120 lb wife, and 400 lb dealer!!

Cause people dont know how to drive. Coast between lights, you don't need to constantly have your foot on the gas or brake pedal.

I drive all city miles. It's six miles to work, with traffic it is 20-25 minutes. I still get 26-27 mpg city. my 00 SI got about 22mpg city (same commute).

considering it is stop and go for almost a half hour it is... 6 miles in 25 minutes. that's a lot of stop and go and sitting at red lights.

The fit is an econo box that was designed to be spacious and fuel efficient. It is not a luxury car, and was never meant to be one. It is small, and very light, which would explain the pushing/pulling on windy days (which lots of cars do, especially ones aerodynamically challenged like the fit). Compared to other vehicles it has smaller, narrower rims and tires which will make it sensitive to road conditions and can be a little less forgiving over bumps.

With your whopping 10,000 Kms it sounds like you're still under warranty. Take it in to get the window rattle and "steaming" issue fixed. Is not having a glove box light really that big of a problem? Use the interior lights. The Fit does have a smaller tank than other vehicles (which is why you think it is a gas hog). That's because hauling around a larger tank increases vehicle weight and fuel consumption.

Maybe you should trade it in and get yourself a nice Town Car or Olds Cutlass. It sounds like that would be more to your liking. Something that kind of "floats" down the road.
