My 3500miles road trip in a Honda Fit!!!
My friend and me we did a road trip from Montreal, Canada to Orlando Florida this summer. I thought you guys might enjoy this.
Where to start?
Well my friend and me we left Montreal on saturday morning (june 23rd). We drove about 1 hour to get to the USA border.
Surprise! Surprise!
There was a crap load of people at the border. We waited about 3 hours before we finaly entered the US of A.
We drove down the Interstate 87 for about 3 hours before we made our first stop in a rest area.
This is the car we drove for the road trip. A brand new base model Honda Fit. No air conditioning and no cruiser control. It did get about 700km on one tank of gas tho.
So anyway, after a 15min break we're back on the road. We drove a few more hours until we finally needed gas. We stopped in Paterson, NJ. We ate a slice of the worst pizza ever. It was about 6pm at the time we didn't want to stay in this **** whole (no offense to people from Patterson, NJ ) for the night so we decided we would drive for another hour and see if we can find a camping.
Unfortunately for us, we're are on the Garden State Parkway now and this is the worst highway ever!!!!! Not only did we get stuck in traffic for 2 hours because of an accident. There is also no sign what so ever to tell you what's coming up at the next exit in term of camping, hotels or motels. So you basically have to look for a motel. while you're driving. Of course it's too late by the time you see it. So you have to get off at the next exit. Go back on the highway in the opposite direction. Not to mention you need to pay toll every time you get off the parkway. At this point we quickly realized that absolutely everything was "No Vacancy".
We figure "**** it" we'll just drive to Atlantic City. They'll have hotels there right? We just need a place to sleep for the night. So it's around 11pm. We finally get to Atlantic City. Guess what? Pretty much everything that is affordable (-250$/night) is sold out too. At this point we've been in the damn car for 14 hours. We're tired. My friend is starting to not feel well.
So we get back on the road. Hoping to find a place to sleep. We drove for a while with every damn hotels and motels showing a "No Vacancy" sign. So we found a quiet spot in a parking lot and decided we would just sleep in the car. It took exactly 20 minutes for a cop to show up. lol
So we're back on the road. We finally ended up at Cape May. The end of the road. We can not go any further until we can get on the ferry at 6:45am. Great... only 5 hours to wait. But where? The parking lot says "No overnight parking". We decided to park there anyway. We didn't sleep much.
But the good news is we were first in line for the Ferry the next morning.
We're back on the road in Lewes, Delaware. After about 2 hours we get to the Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel.
At this point we decide that we need a good night of sleep so we head toward Virginia Beach. We got a room at a crappy hotel and we went straight to bed. I slept from 4pm to 8:30am. :D
We didn't do much in Virginia Beach. The beach was nice but we didn't get to enjoy it much since we hit the road the next day.
So we're back on the road heading toward Hatteras. For another Ferry ride. It took about 4:30 to get there. It was pretty nice. This was my favorite place of the trip. So we decided to get a camping spot and hit the beach. The camping was shitty but it was 2min away from the Ferry.
The beach at Hatteras:
So the next day we get up early and we hit the first ferry (There are two of them). We had a reservation at 9:30 for the second one. The first one his free. We got there at 6:45..... we were the last car to get on the Ferry. There was actually a big SUV in the line in front of us but he couldn't fit in the last spot. But the Fit could. :D
Then we had to drive 30 min to get to the other Ferry on the other side of Ocracoke.
And we're back on the water for 2.5 hour....
We got off the Ferry at Cedar Island. We stopped for gas and some local guy talked to me about Nascar for 15minutes. I barely understood half of what he said. lol This guy had the worst southern accent ever.
And we're back on the road. At this point we've covered about 1000 miles.
We drove to Myrtle Beach that day. Then Jacksonville the next day.
But on Thursday, June 28th. That's where the fun started. :D
We drove to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
That was nice.... but when we left. It started raining pretty bad.
But we still managed to get to Orlando just fine. We got a cheap Motel room in Kissimmee and we hit Disney for the next 3 days. The weather wasn't very nice. We got rain pretty much everyday. But we still had a blast.
After that the weather forecast was showing rain for the entire week so we decided to head back home. We left Orlando at 7:30am on Monday. We drove straight to Montreal. We arrived at 9:15am on Tuesday. 1600miles... 26 hours straight.

Depends on when you hit it. CT to Myrtle Beach in 12.5hrs . All on 95 and never grossly exceeding the speed limit.
Nice pics, and I love road trips BTW.

About 1500$ CAD including everything (Hotel/Motels/Camping, gas, food, Disney tickets, Ferrys, tolls, etc...) for the two of us.
What helped is it costed only 150$ of gas for the entire trip. lol

Well... I'm not sure how many miles to the gallon since we use Liters/100km in Canada.
We averaged about 5.4-5.5L/100km.
I think that's like +50mpg but I could be wrong.
