2008 honda fit sport road noise
Just tried out a 2008 honda fit basic and the sport automatics.
I was amazed at the road / tire noise.
I loved the car except for this con.
Is this due to a small wheel base, light wgt., type of tire, or just inherent in small subcompacts.
I know its not a Lexes but there must be a reason for this .
I did not purchase the car because of this negative.
Any comments on fit road noise would be appreciated.

It has to do with the tire and lack of a ton of sound deadening material.
I don't know what you are used to driving, but I don't think the Fit has very much road noise below 65 mph.

I love my Fit, but it does have quit a bit of road noise. At least the the radio will increase in volume as the road noise gets louder.
And as already stated the noise is due to tire material and very little sound deadening, both things that I can deal with to get the great mileage the Fit gives up.

The Dunlop SP31 A/S tires are noisy as well as being feeble performers. I've commented on my experience with these on my 2008 Fit Sport, on my web site at http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7aq8e/id25.html

If you are used to newer cars, the Fit may seem noisy, but I am coming from owning a 1994 Celica and the Fit is AMAZING!
Maybe you drive to fast? XD

Re: (E-AT_me)
I test drove one (looking at picking one up) and I thought it was very quiet.
of course my other cars are 20 year old rattle can and a 10 year old hotrod w/ a straight pipe

I'm wondering what other comparable cars you drove before discounting the Fit. I test drove a number of new small cars (Yaris, Versa, Rio, Aveo, Fit) and the Fit was the most quiet of the bunch. At anything less than WOT (Wide Open Throttle), I rarely hear the engine.
Oddly enough, the Rio was a close second, but it was optioned to the moon. Forget ever finding the $9,990 one they advertise. The sport model Rio I drove was stickered at over $17,000.
Oh... tire noise. Whoops! Yes, there is some, but a couple of cans of spray undercoating and not driving like Mario Andretti cured that.
And just where did you find a dealership that had more than one Fit? Locally, I found a total of four Fits on five lots. The 'MEGA' dealership had 19 ordered, and 17 were already sold. The one Fit they had on the lot was for sale, but I couldn't pick it up until they got the new shipment in...

If road noise bothers you, just have it undercoated or DIY w/cans of undercoating from an auto store. It doesn't come undercoated. My experience after owing 4 Hondas and having put over 275 miles on 2 of them, 310 miles on my 86 CRX (still own) and now the FIT, you won't find a better car for the money.
Also, I noted in another forum, after 40K miles, the MPG on the FIT has jumped to ~35MPG. It got 30MPG consistently for the 1st 40K miles. I now have 44K miles on it. I have no idea why the improvement.

I've been thinking about pulling the carpet and putting down some dynamat, too... It would be silent inside, but I wonder just how much weight that would add?
