Clogged up catalytic converter, bad spark plugs, bad gas, restricted intake... the list goes on.

bad spark or bad fuel.
i'd check the injectors and the ignition system.
reset ecu etc..

if your problem is with the injectors there should be noticeable signs on the spark plugs(burn marks). pull them out and have a look. if one looks different. replace that injector. you can test the injectors but you will prob need a multimeter.

over time the valves start to wear into the head, causing shitty idle and misfiring and bogging. you might need to get a valve job done and have it decked, most people just buy new heads.

if you pull the connector off of the injector and look at the end of the injector there should be 2 prongs .. turn your DMM to Ohms and touch the individual prongs ( red lead on one- black lead on the other). They should read around 90 ohms consistantly .. all four not for sure on the ohms spec

Any codes? I have the same symptoms with a check engine light. It is being caused by a low cylinder. There's a service bulletin out about the valve seats being soft on the 99. Mine probably has a burnt valve.

ok i just check the injector clips with a light tester and its got power comming through, i use a screw driver and put the tip on the injectors and listen to each one for the ticking sound that its suppose to make while the engine is on and they all make the injector sound, so now im leaning towards burnt valves! will a leakdown test determined the burnt valve problem?

a leak down may not give you too much more info since you have 150psi across all cylinders. if one or two were lower then yes, it would help - but i'm not sure about this particualr situation.

dont get me wrong, i would still do the test - cold and warm, just for peace of mind. also try runing some top end cleaner - if the valves have carbon build-up the engine will misfire and bogg.

good luck!

the valves need to be adjusted every 30k miles. I guess they havent. get in there and adjust them COLD to the loose side of the setting ratio. Then see if that helps, if not...new head time/or fix.

The first test is to see what the MAP sensor voltage is at a fully warmed up proper idle speed with no accessories on, then go from here.

u arrrrrrr right!!
it needed a valve adjustment, these 97-00 b20 head have to b adjusted every 30K miles or the valves will get tight over time and u'll get a dead cylinder, thats what happen in my case. I adjusted the valves and boom, it started and idle like a champ!

It can also cause P0175 (or even other codes) Same problem with all Honda VTEC engines.

There is no room for hydraulic lifters because of the extra VTEC rockers - so Honda chose to go for the old fashioned screw approach but those then need to have periodic re-adjustment. But the advantages are the performance benefits that having VTEC gives you.
